Dale Earnhardt Jr. escaped injury Wednesday morning after hard contact with the wall during a Goodyear tire-test session at Kansas Speedway.
Track public relations director Kelly Hale said Earnhardt may have had a right-front tire go down on his No. 88 Chevrolet, resulting in heavy impact with the outside wall. Earnhardt was evaluated by the track's medical staff and released. The team then packed up its equipment and headed back to North Carolina.
Hendrick Motorsports spokesman Laura Scott confirmed that Earnhardt was OK.
The two-day session -- which included Earnhardt, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keslowski and Regan Smith -- was the first time Cup cars had been on the newly reconfigured and repaved track.
All four drivers, particularly Earnhardt, were complimentary about the comfort level of the new surface as they prepared for the series' return in October.
"It's nice to get out on the track. It's nice to see the track. I like this place," Earnhardt said Tuesday. "The banking will add speed to the race track and [Turns] 1 and 2 definitely have more banking. This should be a fast little race track."
