Loblaws poor quality food in McArthur Ottawa store

We have been living here for the past 4 years this is the closest store where we shop for our weekly supplies of food and other supplies. We spend about $500 monthly and sometimes more at the store. We have been deeply disturbed by the quality of the produce most of it, the quality of the eggs and the meat. The produce is often wilted (talking about parsley lettuce etc.) The eggs almost always contain an embrio which may be safe but quite disgusting and in our opinion should not be sold.
The store is not inexpensive even if we have to spend a little more it is worthwhile to shop elsewhere which we have started to do.
I hope the management will look into this problem soon. Otherwise they will be losing custumers like us.

Have you actually gotten in touch with management about this?

I tried to get in touch with management of Maxi near me as i had concerns with the fruit..kept findin really moldy stuff and i wasnt happy!
Person on end of phone was hopless...even rude.... and i called Maxi HQ (actually think it may have been provigo but the shops are all under the same banner!)
Lady was great . took my details and the problem etc but i heard nothing after that, even though she said someone from the store would call me.
2 weeks later i called back..obviously i was a bit irritated
Within the hour someone from Maxi was on the phone and we talked through the problem and issues...and for my trouble i got a $10 gift cert and the name of the lady in the shop in case i have any other problems.

If you dont tell them there's a problem then perhaps they don't know
...and if you buy something that is ''off'' then you should take it back and get your money back.

Not sure what you're seeing in your egg, but unlikely it's an embryo. Embryos only develop in a fertilized egg. Eggs in grocery stores are laid by chickens who have never encountered the business end of a rooster.

Sometimes they will have little spots of blood in them, but not the beginnings of a wee chicken.

I live in a small town, our major store is an Independent Grocer (which falls under the Loblaw banner). It honestly has the worse "fresh" produce I've ever seen. It's a running joke around town, and neighbouring towns - and most of us travel into Kanata or Carleton Place to ensure we're getting fresher goods. Sad, but such is life.

As suggest, if you're not getting satisfaction at the store level - call corporate HQ. They DO care about customer comments. While they might not be able to fix the quality of produce landing in your particular store, they will follow up on the matter.

EWWWW I remember the superstore where I used to live that place had the grossest looking produce, I don't blame the employees 100% though, you should see what people were doing to the produce, letting their kids "play" with it, put it back on the shelf, people squishing the fruit, putting it back on the shelf, people sneezing on the produce, putting it back on the shelf. I used to go to the fruit market in the same mall where things looked a bit better, sadly they closed down, but I moved anyways.

I have been noticing the same thing at our local Loblaws store her just outside of St. John's. Costco's produce is far superior.

my sis used to work in the deli dept of RCSS and after what she told me, i never buy meat from them. apparently, when their storebrand deli meat (like ham) is close to its expiry date, they would just rinse it in a bleach/water solution and then repackage it with a different exp date. this was over 10 yrs ago when she worked there. not sure if they still do that, but i still won't buy their storebrand deli meat.

Maybe you contact like a health inspector that does stores.I remembering seeing on the internet a groery store had to be shutdown while it was getting cleaning.I saw on tv a dollar store in Edmonton had to get shutdown while it got cleaned.

Here I am again. I have posted this note a while back, and also wrote to Loeblaws headquarters regarding the produce. Someone wrote back with excuses, but nothing really changed. No one ever got back to me on the egg issue, and those things were not blood spots, I have no idea what they were but they looked like embrios to me. We we stopped shopping
in Loeblaws.
Now I shop locally when ever I can, even if it cost a bit more. At least when I complain someone takes notice.

I think we Canadians are very complacent and accept all that is thrown our way from grocery stores. We should start boycotting places that do not listen to us when we complain. It is our money after all.
