I'm officialy addicted to SC. My family has suggested an intervention and therapy sessions have been purchased. (I hope they used coupons)

Anywhooo
This summer I decided that I didn't want the children to watch TV all day. My husband and I decided to come up with cheap and creative ways to keep them busy. Housework
Just kidding.
Really it was walks in the park, picnics, board games, making crafts, and of coure a tutorial on SC and its benefits. Even my 13 year old asks to look through the flyers now. My 18 year old writes down deals he finds and gives me a list almost every other day. It's treated like a game. They love it.. (By the way, the kids did not miss having TV).
Well when I called to cancel the cable back then they immediately offered a better price. I declined but you don't have to.
Today I called and told them I was considering either satllite or cable. Once again they offered a reduced fee. I signed up.
The promotion may only last six months, but that's okay. I'll be cancelling in six months anyway.
Its a 1-800 number, so you have nothing to loose for trying.

Way to go!! It's amazing how much more free time you have when you're not watching TV, isn't it?
Everyone looks at us like we're nuts because we only have rabbit ears (and four very fuzzy channels). But that's okay - there's nothing good on anyways!!

They gave us some crazy 14.95 a month deal after we cancelled our cable for the summer. They called us begging us to get cable again. So now our 200+ a month cable bill is only 14.95 for 6 months

Be careful!! make sure you call them a month before you want to cancel it!!!! we got some super deal through rogers... called to cancel... they wanted to extend our super deal.... which we did.... and then called to cancel again.... some one came out to take all the stuff away..... and they kept sending us bills!!!!
anyway...DH has called them many times, they dont believe him about the "super deal" we were supposed to be getting....
Sorry for thread jumping! just want you to be very careful!

OMG, I wish we didn't have a TV and didn't pay for cable. My DH is addicted to it... I hate TV, I'm addicted to my computer lol, but it's way cheaper than cable!

We've done a "tv-less" week once and it was fun!
I'll try for a month someday.
Thanks for posting!

Way to go!! I've cancelled T.V. cable especially Internet with Rogers, that company unfortunately ripped me off, I had to pay more for what I didn't even use! And they go, "oh, it's in the terms, sorry". I think that's stupid!

I have a TV antenna. It is great now that there is digital. I got a digital box and it is almost as good as cable for lots of stations. I have a booster I am going to install soon so boost some of the station because at times I have a little weaker signal but I get some 25+ stations so more than enough. Not totally free but definitally frugal. With what I save I can one day get a nice TV instead of paying the cable bill.
