Donation to a youth shelter - just dropped off today!
Having done women shelters several times in the past, I found doing youth shelter is a lot harder. Harder because it is a co-ed shelter (I don't know what boys want!) but also much harder emotionally. As a mom, I wonder what drove many of these young children to the street. Abuse? Abandonment? Drugs? Do they think or miss their moms in the upcoming Mother's Day?
Anyhow, with that I decided NOT to drop the donation on Mother's Day weekend so after 2 intense nights of sorting/ bagging, we (hubby, myself and the trio) dropped off 30 bags this morning - for 15 girls and 15 boys. After caring for 2-year old triplets and given my minimal artistic skills, bagging was all I could manage. But with each bag, I sent my love and prayers, hoping that they take comfort from the thought that somewhere and somehow this one Mommy is thinking of them.
So here they are - the contents of the girls and boys bags. For those interested, the shelter is called Eva's Place, one of 3 youth shelters under Eva's Initiatives (so this is part 1 of 3 for me!).

All 30 bags ready to go - just waiting for my sherpa (a.k.a hubby!)
As I wrote in my earlier thread, I couldn't have done this without the help of many people, especially the Downtown TO SC coupon group. And one SDM store donated gift bags and perfume/ skin care samples. Yayy!!!
