The coupon was probably one of these two variations, both with recipe attached.
When I had some coupons refused once for an asinine reason, I emailed the manufacturer and told them how much I enjoyed their product and appreciated getting their coupons occasionally to use. I also gave them the details of how I was unable to use their coupon to buy their product, including the cashier number on the receipt.
Within a couple days I got a phone call from head office of the supermarket chain where I had been and they apologized and asked me to meet with the store manager. I did, he bought me lunch from the deli, apologized profusely and presented me with a $25 gift certificate from the store.

omg too funny!!!!!!!! I admire your ability to remain calm in the situation though. If she had said that to me I would have lost all control and gone off like a bomb lol, starting with "ARE YOU &$%#ING SERIOUS?????" I just know I would have lost my mind lol.The possibilities are endless.

Alot of cashiers in grocery stores do not have any idea what produce they are putting through. Many years ago when I worked in groc store, cashiers had to go into produce section and "help" for a couple of hours a week just so they could learn the different items the store sold. That was way back when stores asked paper or plastic bags and groceries were actually put into bags for you.
