i once was at zellers going up the escalator behind a little girl with her mom...and something you only seem to see happen in movies happened......her entire pants ripped off her body when they got to the top of the escalator,....she was screaming and everyone was staring at this poor traumatized little girl.. i felt sooooo bad for the poor girl but the manager came running and bought her a new outfit and teddy bear...

Wow, that was great customer service.
We might not really think to stop at CS to make a 'complaint' when things like this happen but it is worth letting them know. Unfortunately we may not all get the same response you got but the store should be notified of potential hazards.
