Oh that's right! My mistake. I'm not really sure how UPS works. I know there is sometimes customs fees for other courier services. If you lived in the U.S. that would actually be the place that is free to receive. Since we're out of country we can be charged ridiculous things. So it's not actually Lockerz charging you, it's the company who is bringing it over the border for you.

Here's how it works:

Duty
First of all, always pay attention to the country of manufacture or "country of origin" of the goods; this is not the same as the country from which you purchased it (for instance, if you bought it from amazon.com but it was made in China, the country of origin is China). NAFTA applies to any goods made in Canada, US and Mexico (thus duty-free), but duty rates vary by country and item for others. Taxes will always apply; duties and taxes are two different things.

Taxes


If the courier (importer) is doing it properly, taxes should be assessed as follows:

• HST for all HST provinces (13%)
• GST for all provinces (5%) - except HST provinces as its included in the HST
• For provincial taxes, it should only be assessed if the province where the goods ENTER Canada is the same as the province you reside in. So for instance, if you live in Ontario and it enters at Fort Erie, you pay PST; if you live in Quebec and it enters at Fort Erie - no PST, but if it enters in Montreal = PST.
• UPS and FEDEX almost NEVER assess provincial taxes properly!

Value for Duty
If there is no "transaction price"; that is, you received the item for free but it's not really a gift in the true sense of the word, they can assess the value that this good would normally retail for. Totally up to Customs and the broker on how this is done.

Canada Post
Because it's federally regulated, Canada Post can only assess a $5 charge for performing the import work on your behalf via Canada Customs. However, they have no control over the duties and taxes assessed as they work directly with Canada Customs who select which packages must be assessed duties and taxes. The $5 is the fee; the rest is D&T.

Fedex/UPS/DHL/Other Couriers
They can charge whatever brokerage fee they want; it's not regulated. Fedex uses its own brokerage (Fedex Trade Networks); UPS uses ones they contract with based on port of entry (in Fort Erie it's Peace Bridge, who charge about $30 just for doing the paperwork). Not sure about DHL. Takes and duties will likely still apply, but these guys tend to forget about the provincial taxes because they don't handle consumer shipments as often as Canada Post, and are used to business shipments where PST isn't assessed. So don't be surprised if there's no PST. But you'll never see a $5 brokerage fee with these guys; it will always be quite inflated.

I know but can I really help what others do when they join. People join some get into some forget about it. If they wanted to see if I made emails up they could check IPS none would match mine.
But apparently from the response I got from lockerz I'm told not to worry about the cheater email. lol Its all a buch of bs when I think about it. I know they've pissed off enough people now.

I understand. You have no control over which people continue to answer questions or which just get fed up with the process and decide not to do it anymore. While it's true that they could check the IP address, there are things out there that will change your ip address to mask it so that you could do things. When I was younger I wanted something bad and I used one of these things. Not to say i'm proud of it... but it was having different ip addresses click a link and the more clicks you got, you had better chances of being a winner. So there are things out there to cheat but in the end, it's not worth it because you feel like crap after. I did and now even more knowing that there are people out there who really work hard to get these things.

Yeah I know exactly what you're saying. I only have 28 friends do you really think I'm such a target for this. They need to crack down on people with 100 and more. I could see if i had 500 friends then maybe I would look suspicious but with 28 cmon now lol I have better things to do then spoof emails and IPS.

I'm innocent and so are many others who were sent that cheater email. Though I know there are a huge handful of people who did cheat with fake friend adds. It really sucks how many people cheated the system causing such a stir in accusations on cheating and mixing in the wrong group.

Lockerz is just skimming people now I dont really think they look too deep into peoples accounts they must just randomly draw names and stamp u with cheater etc. It really feels that way.

I have emails saying to disregard the cheater email so if for some reason I'm still labeled as one I'll just forward those emails back.

I believe you. There are lots on Facebook also saying they are being targeted basically for Lockerz mistake. They promised more than they had (had a glitch) and screwed up. At least they are refunding PTZ and giving giftcards too. That's good. I think they next redemption is going to be hell though because of everyone's gifts not being fulfilled. They'd be better on fulfilling those Zlisters and doing the general redemption a little later on with the same PTZ level. While I think Lockerz is awesome for the fact that you get free stuff... it seems like one piece of meat being thrown to several wolves. Everyone fighting to get the prize the fastest. The site crashing... Really they need better professionals to run it. I know how irritating it can be because I was there... waiting 2 months to get a prize or thinking I wouldn't get one at all. With this last Zlist redemption I got a receipt saying something (a baggu bag) I ordered back in October would be sent to me. So... they may make up for it eventually... I don't know..
