Maybe people get so many points by paying bills on their shoppers optimum mastercard. I don't have one of these (YET!) but for example if you set it up to auto pay your utility and other monthly bills, that would easily be over $400 a month! And thats just for paying things you would have to pay anyway!!!

I shopped at SDM tonight and I am 340 pts away from plus station, I know I haven't spent that much this year and was surprised that I only need to spend another $34 to get it. I did some point transfer recently so I am wondering if this did it. Sounds like an easy way to rack up points.

Transfers don't count.You will have to spend $34 before December 31 to get plus status for 2010.

I didnt think it counted either, but, it would explain why I am so close now, few weeks ago I was like 4000 away, or so I thought I was.

I still have stocking stuffers to get and boxing day sales to splurge on!!! *lol* I am hoping to get it done by the $28th. (even if it means just "buying" my way in with gift cards. I shop there enough to use them, I just didn't pay attention to the plus part before *duh!!!*)

Buy a shoppers gc then use the gift card to get another gc for something that you do need (gas card maybe)

I realize some stores aren't letting you buy gcs with sdm gc but you have a few near you so its worth a try!

Nope. Would be nice but that would be too good. What happens when you redeem SDM points is that you get a discount on the amount owing (before taxes). So if the amount owing is discounted then it's not spent and you don't get points on money not spent.

BTW, did you know how to get Optimum points on the taxes you pay on your purchases at SDM? The SDM gift card trick! Of course, the SDM gift card can be used to pay for your whole bill (including taxes) and you can get the regular points on the purchase of that SDM gift card. Neat, huh?

If a product has BONUS points for purchasing you do actually get those points for the item. Just not the regular points.
Last bonus day some chocolate bars were buy three get 200 bonus points. I got them! And I've noticed this other times I have redeemed.
