Went into Shoppers with my boyfriend today while he was buying some shoe-clip things that go over your boots so you won't slip on the ice. He bought two pairs - on sale for $17.99 from $19.99

They rang up at $19.99 each on the till and I didn't notice - but he said to the cashier "Shouldn't those be $17.99 each?" So the cashier got someone to check for her. The other cashier said they were $17.99 and told her to just give it to use for that price.

I pipped up and said "Aren't we supposed to get $10 off because of the scanning code of practice?"

She said very saucy: "...uh NO? You get it for $17.99!"

Me: (lol) "The scanning code of practice says if it scans wrong and it's over 10 dollas, I get 10 bucks off."

Her: "You get it for $17.99 - doesn't she?" (speaking to the other person)

Me: Can I speak to your manager? (At this point I'm kind of embarrassed, but I knew I was right) My boyfriend saves me and then pointed to the SCOP taped to the register. Whewf. lol.. I didn't know where it was.

Her: "Does she get $10 off?" (To her other employee)

So - we got it for $21.00 instead of $40-something because of the SCOP _ $10 off.

I hate it when cashiers get angry because they feel as if they're right in the beginning and I show them they're wrong, they get all sulky. Ugh, it makes me angry lol

    ===========================

Off topic: If the sale has expired, and they still have the sale price up on display, am I supposed to get the sale price because they "forgot" to remove it? Just wondering.

most places will honour the sale price, but I don't know if its legally binding. Good question!

Lame SDM employees suck with SCOP practices. This sounds exactly like my SDM. Except it was with the Nicole nail polish. In the flyer advertised at 6.99 and scanning at a ridiculous 10.49. I said that its supposed to be 6.99 as advertised in the flyer. The other cashier intercepts and says let me check first. I'm like dont u believe me? Its right in your flyer you should know your own flyer. Shes like I dont study the flyer something to that i really dont recall nor do I care lol. Then shes like ok its 6.99 I'm like great I get one free then since scanner code of practice comes into play. shes like NO!in a rude power tripping way haha oh oh SDM police! (same reaction you got LOL Must be in training?). I retort uh YA I do. Her FINE!

The Cashier I was dealing with was really nice though the other one can suck a pickle.

I swear they must not be trained when they start at... any place. Both times (because I only had two SCOPs) the cashiers had ABSOLUTELY no idea.

    Ya, hey!

I wasn't called a cashier, but I worked in the beauty department of RCSS for 2 years and I did use a till. The only difference is there wasn't a line 24/7, lol... and we didn't have a scale. BUT I was never trained on the SCOP... I was told about the SCOP signs and how we have to strive for no pricing mistakes (I changed prices too)... but never did anyone, in those 2 years (AND I quit for the summer and came back at the end, LOL)... fully train me about how/what/why/when SCOP!!

SO YA!! That needs to be trained, big time.

I had the same thing happen this summer with another product. The cashiers told me I'd get the first item at the sale price (vs $10 less the sale price because it scanned higher than advertised price on shelf) and the other item (same product and UPC) at regular price. I had to stand my ground and it wasn't until the 2 cahiers realized I knew the Scanning Code of Practice and what I was talking about that they finally applied it as it should be (it was interesting to see that the cashier had no trouble what so ever filling out her paperwork which tipped me off to the fact that they also knew SCOP very well but if I hadn't known what I was talking about they wouldn't have applied it as it should).
I have no idea why the cashiers at SDM are that way??

For anyone who reads this and hasn't had to apply SCOP at SDM yet remember that if you ever come across an error and SCOP should be applied, stand your ground and don't let the cashier get away with saying that they'll re-ring item at sale price...that is not SCOP!! The cashier/retailer shouldn't be getting away with posint they honour SCOP and then make up their own rules of how it should be applied.

With SCOP, you get $10 off (or free if $10 or less) for the FIRST item. Additional items should be adjusted to correct price.

    Well...

    That's exactly what happened.

Both scanned at $19.99, but the sale price was $17.99
I ended up getting one for $17.99, and the other for $7.99.

I have been able to stand my ground on many times when I have gotten SCOP before at various stores, but have had the most trouble when stores have left out an expired sale sign. It often happens to me at Zellers (Yes Zellers participates in SCOP, only in Quebec) and they refuse to give it to me for free when it scans at higher price but the sale price from like 2 weeks is still above the product. They are horrible, as we all know, at pricing and removing sale signs.
Is this specifically written in the policy somewhere? I would love to print it out to be able to show at the store.
