Out of curiosity, does your receipt acutally that you're 340 pts away from "Optimum Plus" status or are you assuming that you're 340 pts away from reaching 10,000 pts as there is a difference? The 10,000 pts can include the bonus pts on there as well which wouldn't count towards achieving the 10,000 regular pts in a year.

Yup, the till tape counts it down for you. I'm 13 away from Optimum Plus. So I'd better go buy some milk and a newspaper before the end of the year.

No, those are mostly BONUS points. On a $100 purchase you get 1000 REGULAR points. The extra points you get with the 20Xpoints event are BONUS points which don't count towards PLUS status. And besides, the 20Xpoints event coming up is on January 2nd, so it's the new year and you have to start your accumulating of regular points for PLUS status from zero again.
That's why some people were in such a rush right now to try to get to PLUS status before the end of the year. Your points don't expire. It's just that you have to have accumulated 10,000 REGULAR points within a calendar year. So, if you don't make PLUS status by December 31 then it's only the regular points you get next year that will count towards eventual PLUS status.
Remember, the faster way to get to PLUS status is to buy the SDM gift cards (and get regular points) and then use them to pay for your purchases (and get regular points again). Hope that helps.

Almost right...

If you spend $100 on the 20Xpoints event then you will get 1000 regular points and 19,000 bonus points for a TOTAL of 20,000 points... which is twenty times what you would normally get.
Remember, usually the minimum you have to spend to get the 20Xpoints is $50. But if you want to spend a lot more then you will get a lot more points.

thanks. I have been searching for a thread I read about a week ago (or two?!?), about optimizing your points for the different events... but I can't seem to find it.
this message was the closest thing I could find...

I just started doing this (gift cards) a couple months ago. I usually earn about 1 to 1 and 1/2 million points per year. If you cash out on bonus days, you can get a heck of a lot of stuff, some of which I too donate to needy organizations. ( maybe $1000 per year ) It's a great points program of you know what to buy and when.
Good Luck to All!
