Yes Qc too. The cashier at Zellers is the one who informed me. I found out when I used all my FPCs and only paid taxes on the chocolate bars I had to buy because my SPC discount left me in the negative.
$0.54 for a $160 spree. Not too shabby for someone who can't stack
Is my posting this going to kill the thread again or should I just leave now?

So I make these ribs, they turn out fantastic, fall off the bone o.k. everyone come and get it.
Ah suddenly after 20 years of marriage I am informed someone does not like ribs.

Free Taxable Goods, No Purchase Required
A coupon that is issued by either a retailer or a manufacturer may provide for taxable merchandise to be given free of charge, with no requirement to purchase other merchandise. The person presenting the coupon is not required to pay RST on the free merchandise. In this case, the person bearing the expense of the free merchandise is required to pay RST on the cost of the merchandise.
Free Taxable Goods with Purchase of Other Taxable Goods
A coupon that is issued by either a retailer or a manufacturer may provide for free taxable merchandise to be given with the purchase of other taxable merchandise. The customer pays RST on the total amount paid for the merchandise, which includes the free merchandise. For example, when a coupon offers two chocolate bars for the price of one, RST is payable by the customer on the price paid for one. In this case, the person bearing the expense of the free merchandise is not required to pay RST on the cost of the free merchandise.
That's from January 1997 from the Ministry of Revenue Site (Ontario). Should NEVER have been paying tax on FPC's!
This says though that we are responsible for tax on both items when you use a B1G1. However, I just read a recent quote from some government person on a CBC website from August saying that when the HST takes effect, the consumer will only have to pay tax on the ONE item when they use a B1G1 coupon. THAT's the change.Last edited by annedougherty; Sat, Nov 27th, 2010 at 05:31 PM.
