I think it depends. You aren't suppose to, but I've always have on FPCs. I don't count it when I do redeem them and would never argue otherwise if I did not get the points.

FPC (cashier punches 2002 code) - pros: no tax; cons: no optimum points
$off coupon (cashier punches 2001 code) - pros: earn optimum points; cons: pay tax

I had to pay tax on free product at shoppers. Did this happen to anyone else?

It would appear since the whole HST thing that you pay HST on code 2002 FPC.

I can't really verify it (I don't have HST or PST) and my SDM almost never uses code 2002 (course now that I have said that out loud, they will do it this weekend! )

I used a coupon for a free Pantene product last week. I did not pay tax and did not receive Optimum points.

I have only ever gotten the points if she rings in my fpc under code 2001...if it is rung in as 2002, which includes the tax, then no points are given to me.Makes sense to me.

Don't buy the Reactine alone, buy filler like eggs, it's on sale for 1.99 on Saturday.

Scan card first, then eggs, Reactine. BP coupon, FPC coupon and make sure it's 2002. You should pay 1.99 and get 1500 points.

Reason I said to buy filler is because cashier might refuse to scan card because item is free and you won't get points so why bother scanning card and you won't get bonus points because card was not scanned.

2002..no points, supposed to be no tax (but some people have clearly been charged HST on a code 2002 since July 1)

    2001...points and tax
