Hello Fellow Smartcanucks,
Here's my question for you, we have purchased a new 2011 Mazda 3 Sport GS, and we are trying to decide on whether or not to go with the dealers offer to Rust proof our car with Sym-Tech or whether or not to pass on this offer from them and do it yearly ourselves with Krown Rust Proofing?
The Mazda dealer's price to do it with Sym-Tech is very expensive, I believe it was around $2100 for their Rust Inhibitor/Undercoating/Paint Sealant package, the dealer said it was a lifetime guarantee, however it was not transferable to a new owner, should we decide to sell the car in the future. I thought this statement was a little strange. He also said that if we went and had the car rust-proofed with someone else that drills holes into the car to apply the application, then this would void something in our original warranty with the new car.
I have been doing some research on both Sym-Tech and Krown rust- proofing methods, from what I understand, they are very different applications, both with pros and cons. A lot of people say that the dealers price to do it, is extremely over-priced and not to get it, and do the yearly rust proofing applications with and outside company such as Krown etc.
Any advise? We have to make a decision before we pick up the car from the dealer, since they told us we have to get it done (Sym-Tech) before the car leaves them. Any truth/advise to this? Please help! ThanksThis thread is currently associated with: N/A

First: don't trust what the dealer/salesperson says. They will say anything to get you to buy their rust-protection. Contact Mazda Canada directly and inquire about third-party rust proofing. http://www.mazda.ca/root.asp?path=eng-corp-contact---- or call 1-800-263-4680
Second: just to give the dealer/salesperson the runaround (heck they do it to you, so it's fair to do it back), ask them to get you written proof of what would be voided on the warranty. Likely they don't have it because it doesn't exist! You will have caught them lying out of their arses just to make another additional sale.
Third: Google is a Godsend. Google "mazda canada void warranty rust" and read what other customers of Mazda (and this applies to other carmakers also).
