Anyone seen any coupon or discount codes for Enterprise or Budget car rental? I'm going to need to rent a car in March.

Try ! there's coupon codes on there, and they can be combined with an offer they have on their site, at least for budget.
EDIT: ?? the site blocked the other site. I don't see how it's a competing site, since it's only coupon codes.
retail me not is the site.Last edited by Chantel; Sat, Jan 15th, 2011 at 02:43 PM.

My family is car-free by choice, so we rent on a fairly regular basis. I know a lot about renting!
I've booked with Budget when my regular company isn't available, they give Air Miles and it is often comparable to other companies (depending on what you want). Booking online is cheaper with them than calling, they have to pay their call centre a certain amount per call I've been told, but they will sometimes match the online price if you call after you check the online rate. Having a regular company though, sometimes they'll give you deals. I've gotten a minivan for the same price as my full sized car (normally MUCH more), only because they knew I was a regular customer.
For a three day weekend rental, Enterprise is my company of choice. You have to book in advance - I'm not talking months, but you can't call on Friday and hope to get the deal that day, they only sell a limited amount of these deals. While it's not applicable with in conjuction with any other deal (including online coupons), we can get a full sized car for a three day weekend for about $100 or so, plus the cost of insurance and tax. We rented a full sized car over the holidays for a full week for $164, tax in, no coupon. I've not found a better deal here in Halifax (and trust me, I've looked). We don't buy their insurance, we get it on our Visa. More on that below!
Rates can vary depending on when you're renting too, some periods are more expensive than others. A week rental in summer is more costly than winter.
We book the car on our RBC Avion Infinite, which provides insurance on rental cars, the reason we got the Avion cards in the first place. Insurance is about $20 a day from the rental car company and I suspect that they get a commission on it since they sell it so hard, and tell you how difficult it is to get your credit card to pay. This this saves a lot, and in our experience, what they tell you about the difficulties isn't true. We had to use the insurance once when someone badly dented our bumper in a parking lot and didn't leave a note. It was absolutely painless; they didn't charge our Visa for the repairs, just paid them directly. If you rent regularly, look into a card that covers insurance, it will more than pay for the cost of the rental car company's insurance if you rent more than a week or two a year.
So my advice, try booking online first and see what the rate is. Then call and find out the rate for the same period, it could be the same, better or worse.
Lastly, some companies will price match. If you WANT to book with Enterprise, and Budget is giving you the better deal, call Enterprise and tell them that. I know Enterprise will match a competing price by calling the competing company.
Start calling for quotes now!

We asked for a quote then said we had a 30% off code from the book and they applied it to the already great quote we had, threw in the second driver cost for free

If the second driver is your DH/partner, that generally doesn't cost anything extra anyhow. With Enterprise it doesn't.
I think that for some rates, you can use those coupons. But if your rate is already fabulous, they won't further discount it, and I think it says on the coupon that it is not valid with any other offer. But like I said, if you're a regular customer, you can get better deals. So it's a good practice to regularly rent with the same company if you can, it can pay off.

Thanks!
We are picking it up at the airport. It the easiest way to get a family of 5 and luggage to my parent's place. We plan on renting a van. Budget used to be cheaper online, but nowthey are $300 more expensive! But I'll check with my mom to see if she has the Enternainment book. The code I found online excludes airport locations!
Our car insurance covers rentals and so does my Visa. I wish I had known about credit card car insurances when we didn't have a car! It's fantastic!
