I did the BigFish promo too (although on Superpoints), but I can still answer some of your questions.

You do need to cancel the Game Club "free" subscription (or better yet, de-select it at the checkout), it's only free for the first month then they bill you if you haven't canceled it after one month.

The games are valid forever, once you buy it they never expire. You download it to your computer, you don't need to be connected to BigFish to play it.

The game I bought was "Virtual Families", kind of like "sims lite". I bought it for my 4-year-old because he enjoyed playing it at his grandma's house.
