    I worked at Winners as well, and cutting up items and throwing them away was also our policy. It was to discourage dumpster diving, as well as people purposely damaging items and asking for it for free (happened daily, I you not!)

    In many cases, this was a stipulation in contracts with suppliers. I guess DKNY didn't want their items seen on homeless people. In other cases, we were allowed to remove all brand identifiers for donation, but more often than not the items were sold yet again to a store like Hangers.
