Is it really common? I've just been tested for it. I have an infection in my toe really badly apparently. (Long story I broke my toe nail when I hit it against something then it went all funky was fine now funky again) so now im on meds but apparently chances of it being MRSA are high since I was in Vegas and apparently the dr said its really common down there?
Not cool. Im on 10 days of meds 4x a day to start

Oy, poor you! It's a strain of staph infection resistant to the usual antibiotics.
There are two kinds - institutional and community, you would have the latter.
It spreads easily, so be careful with your family...
It's good you caught it early - if untreated or left for too long, it can get serious fast (flesh-eating disease).
Also, make sure you take all your meds - you don't want to have to end up getting intravenous antibiotics.
Hope things clear up for you quickly!

OUCH! Yep - in my experience, and hospitals seem to be the WORST PLACE for picking up MRSA. My mother-in-law has a recurring eye infection, and I told her just yesterday to get it swabbed, because she has been getting this infection ever since being in the hospital.

Actually, most of our patients COME IN with MRSA and don't pick it up in hospital.
For a while it seemed that everyone came out of ICU with MRSA. Factor in the compromised immune system, the amount of heavy duty meds in use and it was a breeding round.
I've never seen MRSA in an eye. Nostrils, groin folds, open wounds are the entry point.
At one point they were going to swab hospital workers and then decided against it because of the costs involved. One article suggested that by the time a healthcare worker retires they will be colonized by MRSA, which is totally different from having an active infection.

Sally, did you get the "all clear" after taking your antibiotics? I'm like antsy as all hell at the moment about MRSA
My Aunt is in the Hospital in ICU and my Mom went and visited her on Monday May 2 and of course she hugged/kissed her, held her hand etc. Well tonight my cousin called to inform us that her mother (my aunt) has MRSA. UGH. My mother, myself and my husband live together and my Husband has major surgery in just 1 week so now I'm anxious and worried that we were exposed to it.
