Toilet Paper - shrinking rolls and best deals

I remember when I used to buy double roll with 450 sheets per roll. I just looked at my Charmin Extra Strong last night and the double roll is only 170 sheets. I paid $9 on sale less a $0.75 coupon =$8.25 before tax for 20 double rolls = 35.5m^2
I picked up my single rolls of Royale which had 140 sheets per roll. I paid $4.99 on sale less a $1.00 coupon = $3.99 before tax for 24 rolls = 33.5m^2

So I'm wondering what are the best brands, types, coupons etc to buy since we all buy a lot of this. I know quality differences result in using different amounts of different brands and I don't want to buy one like industrial sand paper.

Any thoughts or opinions or do I just have too much time on my hands

Thanks for the tip, I have never looked @ it that way but I will from now on. I assumed when they said double it was actually double but in chamin's case it is not! I cant use any othewr brand and I want to save money not be ripped off, ty.

No help from this gal, but thanks for bringing that to my attention. I hadn't noticed that toilet paper was shrinking too. Everything seems to be shrinking. Juice used to be 2L, now it's 1.75 (same price as before though). Cheese used to be 907g; now the standard is 750g etc.

You don't have too much time on your hands. It's never a waste trying to get the biggest bang for your buck.

I'm sure double is double their single size but singles are also smaller. In the case of Charmin I can't even find single rolls regularly, mostly just double rolls and now big rolls and mega rolls. I'm trying to figure out the best brand(s) for us and size/cost is definitely a factor.

I know with Charmin,the sheets are thicker, thus one should need to use less. Try explaining that to my 4 year old though........ Off topic tip, I squish the rolls, so they don't "fly" when pulled down, gotta cut down on the shrinking tp!

this why I buy mine at Costco.........32 rolls of 500 sheets each for less than $20, plus tax.............sometimes they drop the price by $4, so its under $16, plus tax.

My other 'good' deal on TP was when Can. Tire put out their scratch cards & you were guaranteed to win at least a $5 off coupon..........I collected cards from the recyling bin & stocked up on the $4.99 Majesta packs of TP.

I think Blue Planet 12 double roll toilet paper for $3.97 is a good deal at Canadian Tire.
