Hey all! Okay so I would like to know which is REALLY more cost effective... Portable (space) heaters or Electric (baseboard) heaters?
One apartment I lived in I had the portable space heaters (regular fan as well as the portable oil heater) in all 4 rooms and the hydro only increased by $100 a month (vs the $150 increase when I used the gas furnace!!!) Tha apartment I am in now, we used the baseboard heaters this winter and our hydro increased by $250!!!!!
Which do you find more cost effective and if applicable, what brand of space heater are you using?

So many people here are going to the Infrared portable heaters because they are so cost efficient. They are expensive to buy at around $500.00 or a little less, but they say they use much less electricity. Haven't got one ourselves, but several of our friends have bought them. Just a thought.

In the first house I bought, it was older, so everything was oil. It was VERY expensive, so we used portable heaters. I think it was perfect for us.
My mum was renting from me (and my sister) and my mum worked, sister was at school, so I was the only one home usually. I could just use the heater in my room instead of heating the entire house.
