You don't pay tax when using a "free product" cpn at SDM - they enter it with a diff code (2002) than $ off cpns.

That's where I got confused because the coupon says "consumer pays tax" or something like that.

At my store at least, the 2002 code now DOES make us pay the tax . It did not used to be that way, but when I redeemed my free Sense and Spray coupon, it was entered 2002 AND I had to pay tax. Lose-lose because I don't get points either

I received the coupon and redeemed it today - tiniest bottle of mouth wash! No way would I pay 4.99 for it. The cashier examined the coupon and tried to scan it with no luck. Then told me "sorry but the coupon won't scan". I just looked at her, there was an awkward pause and then she punched it in manually. I guess she wanted me to say never mind, I won'd use it? LOL Like that would happen!
