So this isn't exactly a freebie but it does save $55 a year depending on how often your shop at costco and what your time is worth. It also works great if you have kids in school in a different town. I shop there very little so I can't justify spending the membership fee instead a found a workaround after some hard googling.

Basically you need to get a gift card by having someone else buy it for you. It can be in any dollar amount however if you spend more then the gift card you must pay cash (maybe debit not a 100% on that one). You walk through the exit and go to customer service and ask for a day pass as you have a gift card. They will try to sell you a membership just say you want to see if it is worth it. They write down a little bit of information takes 5 minutes plus time in lineup. Shop like normal.

I usually get a $100 card since that lasts me 3 trips as all I usually want is candy and ziploc bags.

Thanks for the tip! I don't usually shop at costco but when there's something that I really want to buy there, I just borrow my friend's membership card.

I don't even think you have to ask for a day pass anymore. I had a cash card, and I was just told that they put you under a "general" user.

You don't need a day pass... I get my mom a Costco gift card every year so that she doesn't have to go with me (or I with her) and she just walks in and out like any other member.

FYI You do not need to be a member at costco to get prescriptions filled there, it is a federally regulated substance. You just tell them you are there to get a prescription filled and they have to let you in

I've heard that too, but I haven't tested it out yet. Seems kind of stingy, but I could believe it...
