SDM GC scams seem to be going on in Toronto ..probably @ other GTA retailers too ..looks like some organized scam going on .

I don't know if you should refill the same card. If shoppers refills it, I would immediately use it so the $ doesn't "disappear" again.

I have a reloadable card that I always reload before I LEAVE the store (not when I enter like most do). If I have my two kids in tow I find standing in the check out line only once is way easier... I'll put 50$ on it and not have to be concerned that if I need to stop for eggs/milk on the way home that I have to buy a GC first... My only concern until now is if my wallet were to get stolen... After reading these posts I don't think I'll ever buy a GC off a public access shelf again.

Definitely DO NOT refill the same card! The ones who stole the money still have the information on your card -- they can empty it all over again. If Shoppers does reimburse you, make sure you get a new card -- hopefully one whose information has not been compromised.

This type of gift card theft has occurred with President's Choice gift cards as well. Now, I think twice before buying gift cards, versus just paying with credit card...I want the points, but I don't want the hassle if the gift card money is stolen...too much stress and too hard to get the money back!

She's not the OP. I think she's just talking about reloading a card she already has rather than risking having money stolen like other people have by buying a new card. It's is a good idea and should work just fine with an SDM card.

Oooops! Sorry. Yes, this IS a good idea. My sister has been reloading one of hers for months -- if it were compromised, thieves would have taken the money long ago.

(I hate attributing quotes to the wrong people...sorry, folks!)
