Vow Renewal Question

Myself, hubby, and kids were invited to friends of ours wedding renewal ceremony. What is an appropriate gift? Or do you give gifts at a renewal? We did not attend the wedding (it was out of area and they had a small wedding with only parents and siblings) nor did we get them a gift at the time.. We don't have alot of money so if we should take a gift any suggestions?

Is this for a wedding they had within the past year that people were not able to attend or is this a renewal of a couple who has been together many years?
For a long term couple doing a renewal I don't think a gift is nessesary but if it's for a couple who couldn't have a larger wedding to begin with (for whatever reasons) than this would be like attending their wedding and a gift would be appropriate.

Check with relatives or close friends of the couple to see what is expected.

If a gift is appropriate, depending on how long they have been married, a few suggestions:

Candles/flames symbolize the soul, love and purification (include in this in the card.)
So give a set of candlestick holders and candles. They can be as expensive/inexpensive as you like. White candles are always in style.

Mirrors symbolize harmony/happy marriage. (again include this in the card!)

Give a decorative mirror for their home/apartment. Again, it can be as expensive as you can afford.

Lovely suggestions! Re-newing commitments to friends might mean a photo album with pictures that you have of them which they might not have of themselves - at parties or former celebrations. How about a favourite recipe of something that you had shared along the way? How about a description from the internet of what it was like the day they originally were married. Weather - news - Happy news- horoscopes - songs of the day -

Totally agree that a gift isn't likely expected, but if you are thinking along those lines, the suggestions here are perfect! Something that's more sentimental than practical...if that makes sense. A book of love poetry...candles with a poem about the heat or fire of passion...Avon's ideas are so perfect...I think that the idea of a vow renewal is to re-dedicate themselves to each other, and share their love with their invited guests...I don't think they're thinking "gift".

They have been married for 5 years, Most people couldn't make it to the wedding as it was very far away.
