I just sent this message to everyone who said they're coming to the get together at my place tomorrow. I though I'd tell everyone too, just incase someone else is able to help out in the next couple days even if they can't make it to the actual get together:
I've been reading about efforts to help the displaced people from Slave Lake and I want to help. I've already pulled out about 3/4 of my stock pile (not much, I'm still new to all this) and a bunch of my old baby items & towels & things, but I thought this get together would be a great way for everyone to get involved. It's close to home for me because I have a cousin who's married with 2 kids and lost everything.
We're at the point this month, money wise, that we can't spend too much more on non nessisary things, we'll be dipping into our food budget if we do. So after wracking my brain I remembered a post of someones challenge in not spending any money. She started with returning her bottles and used that money to coupon with and see how far she could go.
That's what I'm going to do. We have about 4 garbage bags of bottles to return that should be able to buy a few more body washes & toothpastes & things.
I also posted on the event post that high on my wish list is the $5wub2 olay may 31 exp, $5wub3 gillette and any old spice, the $3wub2 and $1 from brandsaver/smartsource and the tear pads from RCSS or other stores. With those I should be able to buy LOTS more really cheap to free body wash.
So if you're able, bring your coupons, empty bottles and/or donations. If you're not able to do anything at this point then bring yourself and good conversation, that is much needed as well
Thanks so much everyone
Right now I dont want to get over whelmed with clothing donations, as I'll be dropping everything off in my car and bringing my 2 kids with me when I do so. lol But items from your stockpiles that you may have in excess, smaller donation items and bottles I can take back are most welcome.
I'm totally ok with making a couple trips, I just dont want to have to do 20! lol
If anyone can help out please message me and I'll pm you my address, or I can try to come collect things. Thanks again!

I'm up in Westlock, and right now the evacuees most urgently need baby supplies. Then pet supplies, feminine products and kitchen supplies. Also totes and strong bags for items to be carried/stored by those who need them!

Just a question on the olay coupons. Would it be better to buy the body washes or the bars of soap. RCSS has the 2 bar Olay on for $1.64 so with the $2 or $5 coupon one can get quite a lot. Also, since this is not in the RCSS flyer, how can one try to PM it to walmart to use the extra on these coupons against other purchases that one can donate for Slave Lake residents. THis way those coupons can go further i would think.

I'm not sure where you are planning to drop off, but I've just heard that Athabasca is running out of food (dry), men's, women's, and kids underwear and bras. Bras don't need to be new, but clean and in good condition.
Thank you everyone who is helping out!

I went looking for the olay bar soap but at the location I went to they were more expensive then the bodywash! I went to clairview (137ave & fort rd) Crazy. And that is a great idea, but I dont think they will PM unless it's advertised
bummer.
I think I'm going to have to contact an organization (like the red cross or something else) and do something through them, rather then just drop it off somewhere thats accepting "donations", who knows where it's going to.
I read on the SPCA website they're not wanting pet food...but on the CISN website there's individual people who are taking in other people & pets that would need it...so I'm a little overwhelmed as to how to proceed with donations. There's also a few places that have said they're not accepting donations any more until the things they've received so far are gone though.
Lots to think about!

I am pulling everything I can from my stockpile and donating it. I have about 3 boxes full of deodorants, shampoos, toothpaste, pads, etc. Grimshaw trucking all over Alberta, BC and I believe Sask will be accepting donations all week and will be delivering to the victims nightly. Please please please if you are in an area that has a Grinshaw Trucking, please donate! I have a suburban FULL of stuff to bring to them tomorrow.
God bless these victims! I sure hope Mother Nature has a heart this week and calms the winds and blesses us with some rain.

Sent $50 to Red Cross
. Yes, from bottle money that I had been saving up for luxuries - it is indeed a luxury to donate and help others in need!

I don't have much money as my hours have been cut in half (due to students going back to work) but I did buy some clearance underwear and bras for under $20 at Winners where I work and I will also be donating some of my toiletries and gently used clothes. If you live in the Park Winners is collecting cash donations and all other types of donations (toiletries, clothes, pet food, etc).
