My husband is creating an online calculator tool similar to the one he has already created on WORZ.ca due to demands from certain members on S.C., but for Shoppers Drug Mart shopping and coupon use.

He is asking me about one certain area in the bonus points section and couldn't really answer him, so maybe I can get someones input from here.

When Shoppers advertises a certain item to be on special

for ex: Lindt Chocolate 3.40$ and says it's 10x bonus points for this purchase and you were to purchase 3 of these would the calculation be as follow...

    3.40$ x 10 = 300
    3.40$ x 10 = 300
    3.40$ x 10 = +300
    900 Points

    or as follow:

    3.40$
    3.40$
    +3.40$
    10.20$
    x 10 Points
    1,000 Points

Any help from the expert will be very useful to finishing this calculator tool for everyone to use afterwards.

    It would be
    Base 1 : 30
    Base 2 : 30
    Base 3 : 30
    BP ($3.40x3 = $10.20 = 100points) 100x9 = 900

    Thank you FallenPixels.

So you are saying that the cash will group all the like items together, then round down, and then give the bonus points according to the total of the grouped items.

The example I gave was not on a 10X on all the shopping, just when certain items have 10X on them.

So if I bought something like this

    1 x bag of milk @ 3.97$
    3 x Lindt Chocolate @ 3.40$ (with 10X bonus points)
    2 x Cereal @ 3.99$

My base points would be 220.
Then the total of the Lindt would be added together (10.20$) and the extra 9X points worked out (900)

Or would the bonus points be worked out on each Lindt and then added together. So each Lindt would have a bonus of 270 * 3 = 810 extra.

He's probably over thinking this, but he likes to get things right.

    Thanks for your help

I just found an old receipt from the 50X CG special they had a while back, and he managed to work it out from that.

Thanks again, he's a happy camper now!
