Good afternoon. While we were on holiday we booked a trip toBuckingham Palace. Seems every time I go to one of her places (previously beento Balmoral and Windsor) she always out, I think I’m starting to feel unloved!!On display during the tour, besides the beautiful furnishing and priceless paintingsare gifts the Queen receives from the places she visits or one she receivedfrom visiting heads of state. Some for the thing are magnificent, gold and jewels,finely crafted carving, some large some so fine it sits in the palm of yourhad. Well were doing this tour when suddenly I hear my friend up in front of mevery loudly say “What the Hell, this is it, you got to be kidding! So, I goover to him an see what the hell is up. Andthere on display is our gift to the Queen beside all these gold and jewels, buta pair of Vancouver Olympic red mittens. Of course, there was no hat, no scarfjust red mittens. My buddy’s going, we have gone though all magnificent giftswaiting to see what we gave the Queen and it’s a pair of mitts, he said I’m embarrassed.We all had a great laugh and started down the line when we spot the US’s gifton the display. Still can’t tell if was about as good or worse. There sat anautograft picture of JFK. I guess he thought just a bit too much of himself,though she could make a good buck from it. Now every time we want a good laughwe bring up those mittens and wonder why were they the Canadian gift on displayof the hundreds that must have come from Canada.One of her most beloved gifts of all timecame Canada from the Mounted police, the horse she had and rode for 18 years.And this year’s 150 brooch is not too shabby too! But the mittens will last in out memoryforever.
