Suspected driver in Toronto van attack that killed 10, injured 15 expected in court today
All eyes will be on a Toronto court this morning as the man suspected of running down pedestrians along a busy stretch of Yonge Street will make his first appearance. 25-year old Alek Minassian will face a lengthy list of charges -- we don’t know them yet but word is they will be revealed when he arrives at the courthouse.
The Richmond Hill man was arrested after a brief sidewalk standoff with a lone police officer not far from the carnage where the van he is suspected of driving killed 10 people and injured 15 others.
Police continue to have the affected stretch of Yonge Street closed off for the investigation, which continues this morning. Yonge is closed from Sheppard to just north of Finch, while Finch is closed through Yonge from Kenneth to Duplex. Also, a heads up for TTC riders -- line 1 trains will bypass North York Centre until further notice.
A very sad day yesterday. :(
Did you know?
All the blinking in one day equates to having your eyes closed for 30 minutes.
Trudeau reacts to Toronto van incident
A memorial for the victims of yesterday’s tragedy continues to grow in the north end. Global News reporter Mark Carcasole is in North York and says it’s emotionally overwhelming for the community.
In offering his sympathies to all affected, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said ``we should all feel safe walking in our cities and communities.'' The prime minister is scheduled to make another statement about the attack outside the House of Commons this morning.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said there was no information to change Canada’s risk level and the ``horrendous'' events ``do not appear to be connected in any way to national security.
Maple Leafs force Game 7
Talk about an emotional win for the Leafs -- Tomas Plekanec put the game away with an empty net goal, making it a 3-1 Game 6 decision over the Bruins to force a series-deciding Game 7 in Boston on Wednesday.
GO LEAFS GO!
Today is...
Alright Browncoats, it’s time to go out into the black and gather up those who have yet to experience the wonder that is Firefly. Firefly Day is dedicated to shameless pandering of the beloved show and indulgent marathon watching of the series from beginning to end.
Good morning fellow Canucks!
What a great game last night. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Hopefully good things will happen on Wednesday.
Have a great day folks.
Good morning everyone!
A little fitting the Toronto area is grey today.
Great to see the Leafs win last night!
