Aussie Girl is doing great - she has had company all day, and I am home now... she is a happy camper...no cone for her!!! SHe is finished her meds.....her paw is healing...still needs protective boots when outdoors for a couple of weeks....

A Police Dog's Best Friend

Winnipeg's K9 Storm In. is tasked with protecting some of the most elite canines in Canada and around the world. The small company, which makes body armour for military and police dogs, has customers in 18 countries, including a high-profile U.S.client.

A former canine handler for the Winnipeg Police Dept, he and his German Shepherd partner, Olaf, amde 285 arrests during their time together. While helping to contain a prison riot in 1996, Mr. Slater reaslized that although he was heavily protected against harm, Olaf was not. When he was unable to find anything to protect his dog and still allow the mobility needed to do his job, he designed a special vest. Other handlers started asking for vests for their dogs and the idea for K9 Storm was born.

In 2010, L9 Storm landed an $86,000 contract to supply its patented canine vests to the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, which administers the counter-terrorism unit that raided Osama bin Laden's compound with the assistance of it's canine member, Cairo.

The company makes bullet-proof Kevlar vests, which are custom-fitted to each dog. The vests can range in price from $2,500 to $30,000.

The company's website carries testimonials from users such as Ser. C. Borgstede of the Delta Police in B.C. His dog, Chikko, disarmed a suspect after the man brought a pitchfork down on the dog's back. The vest deflected the blow and Chilkko was back at work two days later! Another account cited a dog named Blitz who had been hit at close range by a .45 automatic and when his vest was removed they found two flattened bullets!!!

It's great those dogs can be protected as they should be. They really do some great work!!! and very dangerous things. They are amazing!!!
