Blue Mountain to invest $10 million in new trails, terrain and chairlift
After announcing an expansion to the village earlier this year, it looks like Blue Mountain will also be upgrading the ski and snowboard experience itself.
Blue Mountain, Ontario’s largest mountain village resort, will invest $10 million to expand its ski and snowboard terrain, adding new trails for winter 2013/2014.
The expansion will include an additional 64 acres of terrain along with a new, high-speed six-person chairlift and six new trails.
“This is one of the most significant investments in the Resort’s 73 year history and the largest expansion of a ski resort in Ontario in recent memory,” said Dan Skelton, President and Chief Operating Officer, Blue Mountain Resort.
Snowmaking equipment and night lighting will be installed on three of the six new trails, according to a news release.
After the expansion Blue Mountain will have 42 skiable trails, giving it the most in Ontario.
The expansion will also introduce a new 1.6-km trail that will be the longest beginner trail in Ontario.
“More trails and improved skiing and snowboarding facilities enhance the visitor experience and give Ontario families more reasons to travel in our province,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Not the kind of day for wearing anything lacey or frilly,
In fact it is so cold, it's long underwear for Billy,
Stay toasty warm indoors & saunter over to the buffet table,
Pour yourself a liqueur & share a story or a fable,
Loocie likes to know that you are comfy, snug & cozy,
Not like the people outside with noses oh so rosy,
Bring your fondue fork & request for your favourite tune,
We can lament at how we wish it was already June!
