New Green Bins Aren’t So Raccoon-Proof After All

It seems Toronto’s new green bins aren’t so raccoon-proof after all.
A resident in Scarborough recently tweeted photographs to Global News showing the damage caused by raccoons just days after the new bins were rolled out.
The resident claims the bins are much thinner than the old ones as teeth marks are visible on the cover. In one photograph, the bin is shown with a gapping hole on the edge.






The City of Toronto has agreed to replace the damaged bin but questions remain on whether they will hold up to the job.

City officials say the bins were designed to keep those pesky rodents out of your organic trash.






Scarborough is scheduled to receive the bins first followed by Etobicoke and the rest of the city by the end of 2017.

Thank you guys very much for your voting support. It's nice to be able to help with dollars (if they win) without it actually costing anything to the supporters!!

It is a phenomenal cause... My daughter went to camp trailblazers when she was 13 and it was a life changing experience for her. She has been involved in many facets of AboutFace ever since (11 years). Yesterday, she was an escort for four 11 year old kids who had the wonderful opportunity of going to Walt Disney World for the day (through the Dreams take flight program.)

Good morning, everyone.

Hope everyone is well.


So, we have some answers. Sort of.

The good news:
- there is now a definitive diagnosis of lung cancer, so we can get a plan going.
- we don't have to deal with specialist 3 anymore (hopefully forever!)
- the infection is clearing up (her taste buds are returning to normal, yay!)

The bad news:
- we don't have an appt with the oncologist (specialist 2) until May 24th
- we should have been told the diagnosis 2 weeks ago (was delayed because specialist 4 was on vacation) - rather miffed with the folks at the clinic, as well as specialist 3 (the cranky pants one))
- my Mom is getting weaker by the day (she still insists on being on her own and doesn't need oxygen, which surprised the doctors)
- true to our family history, the cancer is not manifesting in the usual way (instead of tumors or a large pocket of fluid putting pressure on her lungs, there are a whack of bubbles each filled with fluid - Dr showed us the ultrasound & my Mom's lung looked like an Aero)


So, that's where we are, for now.

Better get going, I have an appt this morning (for me, this time).

Good morning – Thank you for the nice comments on the The Who pictures. As you have seen by the pictures posted in the last few months I have been lucky to see some great shows. But of all the shows none brought back the feeling and emotions and the memories like last night show. My buddy Ian and I saw them almost every few weeks and would hit the bars like the Gasworks, the Blackhawk, the Knob or The Kee just to see them. It all came flooding back last night as the wife and I saw Kim Mitchell in Richmond Hill. Now I have seen him many times in the last few years and must be well over 50 times though the years, but it was not same. It could be because he got sick, as some of you know it changes you. But he rocked last night, wailing on guitar, base pedals that just rattled the place. He opened with Lager and Ale and closed Hangover. The hard rocking was slowed by Patio lanterns and Go for a Soda which where the last two songs before the encore (Hangover). Guess my emotions boiled over when he played Paradise Skies, the memories of past, and Ian came flooding back and so did the tears, not sure I had that many when cancer took him a few years ago. Thanks Kim, for rocking the place out and bringing back the memories. The pictures, some are good but most were grainy. Part one of two.
