Thread: Foodland - Coupon Issues

So I have takn a couple of days to decide whether or not I would even post this, but here goes.......
A while back (when I was just starting to use a bunch of coupons) I went to my local Foodland (the only store in my little town) to get something, and they refused my printed coupon. I can understand that. I was a little annoyed, but I do understand the whole printed coupon thing. I read online that their policy is not to accept the printed ones.
So I go back there on Friday night to get dog food. I had a rough day at work, and it was the closest store, so that is where I went. So I wander into the dog food aisle, and there is a coupon RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DOG FOOD.....buy a bag of Dog Chow and get Free Busy Bones (my dogs LOVE Busy Bones)
So I lug the bag up to the cashier, and she tells me that they don't accept it! WHAT?????
So I told her that it was found in store, and she changed her tune a little bit. The coupon CLEARLY stated Buy 1 Get 1 Free......she stares at it for a little while, and again tells me that I can't use it! If I want to use it, I need to buy another bag of dog food!
By this point, my blood is boiling....I took the coupon from her, and said....It clearly states buy ONE get ONE....so why would I have to buy 2? She looks at me all snarky, and finally puts it through.
I am all for supporting local businesses, but I am NOT going to support that one anymore! Sick of the hassles! I will take the drive to the next town for whatever I need.

Talk to a manager about stuff like that I guess. I used an aunt jemima coupon that said: buy 2 breakfast entree's, or pancakes or breakfast sandwiches save $1.00. So I pick up 2 of the breakfast sandwiches and she says you can't use it since its only for the breakfast entree with a huff. So I say no it isn't, it also says breakfast sandwiches. it's not like it was fine print or something, I don't know if she stopped reading after the breakfast entree part. I know they're busy but losing the attitude when talking to people isn't just good customer service it might help your day go a bit better.

Never let the cashier tell you what to do, the majority of them are either teenagers who are still in high school or 50+ year olds who have failed at life. Always request a manager if there is a problem.

Remember I said majority, I'm sure there is a (very) small fraction of cashiers out there who do it because they love it. but my general rule is if the cashier is over 50 they've failed and failed hard.
I'm speaking from experience as I worked as a cashier for just less than a year when I was in high school, it was an experience I value to this day as I knew I wanted to make something of my life and not be in my forties and still a lonely cashier.

Whaaaat? Seriously? I know a few older women who are cashiers, and they're happy, successful women. Being a cashier doesn't make you any less of a person than, say, being a hairdresser, or a dentist, or a realtor. Yes, you might make less money, but some people don't need much money to be happy, and to live off of.
Why are people so damn jugemental?

Did you really just compare being a cashier with being a dentist??
Think about that for a minute, seriously think about what you just typed.
A Dentist having the same skill set as a cashier.
I am actually embarrassed for you.

Your user name sums it up pretty well. Nothing to see here.
BTW...I am a graduate in medicine. For 2 years I worked in a warehouse for a break.
I loved it and it gave me a new appreciation for peace work and labour workers.
My 50+ put some of the other workers to shame because of my maturity and work ethics. Just because I opted out for lower wages and a different work environment, did not make me a loser.

Keisha - sounds like the Foodland that I go to...it is brutal - they actually restock sale items yo the back and only leave a few items out. They also ALWAYS make a huge deal when I present a coupon. They also rarely have the sales programmed on the register so even if you are lucky enough to find the item you haev to make sure they ring up at the sale price. It's disgusting. I hate going there...but we live in a small town too and it's the only grocery store here (unless I drive 15 mins)

I love that I'm made out to be the bad guy because I tell it like it is.
If you re-read my post I said the majority, meaning > 50%. not 100%. You can give individual examples until you're blue in the face it doesn't matter.
My general rule of thumb is if the cashier is over 50 their life isn't exactly on the right path and if there is a problem, instead of arguing with them I request a manager or supervisor if possible- It hasn't hurt me yet.
Now go ahead and tell me what a horrible person I am and all that if it makes you feel better but I trust my experiences and knowledge much more than any random person on the internet.. now carry on hating me.Last edited by Nothing To See Here; Mon, May 10th, 2010 at 11:41 PM.
