Hey everyone!! I'm still pretty new at this, but in the last 2 months I have created a stockpile. Majority things I do use, but some things I thought I needed(for family) but apparently not the right brand. So I'm thinking of donating them. I've googled donation and seems like the only thing they want is money. Does anyone know where I can donate toiletries??

Also my hubby told me that I can get a tax reciept. Is that true?? How should I go about doing it??

I couldn't find anything online so I figured my fellow SCer's will definately know the answers! Thanks in advance!!

I've posted this on my brag already, but this needs to be common knowledge.

Tax receipts are issuable for "in kind donations" (stuff) at "fair market value" (what you would normally pay for stuff).

I usually take the shelf price and add the tax paid to determine fair market value.

Charities are always willing to issue a tax receipt if you are bringing them useful stuff, don't expect one for junk or irrelevant things (ie Kotex to a men's shelter)

Having said that, anyone who has Gillette $5 WUB2 or Old spice $3 WUB2 or $1 on one near whyte ave, I would love to do another LD shop Wed or Thurs for Youth Emergency Shelter.

Anyone wanting to do this shop themselves, price match Gillette and Old spice to RCSS for $2.50, then stack. Gillette $5 wub 3 plus 3x$1, adjusted down to $7.50. Old Spice $3 wub 2 plus 2x$1. pay the tax and donate for your receipt.

Watch out, the customer service woman at South Common LD is very cranky, but stick with it and she will do it. She's been cranky every time I've been there, coupons or not.

My friend volunteers for the Mustard Seed Church in the inner city and they do up care packages with personal care products and always desparately looking for those items too...just in case you need some other charities to donate to.

I believe Terra - the highschool for pregnant girls - also accepts baby and women personal care items, but I'd phone and double check as it's been a while since I've checked with them if they'll accept those donations.
I've just joined SWAG BUCKS & you should too for Amazon.ca gift cards!

LF: Clorox wipes, Rootbeer 2L, Sprite 2L, activia/danone for any product, sunlight laundry detergent (powder), bounce sheets, meat, kelloggs, venus razors, icoke pins
FT: baby diaper & formula, glade, snuggle coupons, dog & cat food and products

My daughter had emailed the women's shelter, and they did not want clothes. They may want toiletries though. She is sending her clothes (gorgeous, almost new!!) to the youth emergency centre.

Perhaps I did at least ONE thing right with her!

Also, I give to Bissell Centre, Mennonite Centre for newcomers etc.

I was listening to the news this morning and how our new EPS chief wants to work with the Somali community etc. Now that's a thought - I wonder if the Somali community, (or any newcomers into Canada) would accept little care packages from us...
    That would be so good!!

i've donated to the Bissell Centre before and they do need a receipt for food items (not sure about toilettries). I guess it's reasonable since they need to know where the food came from. And they do write you a tax receipt.

Just make sure when you do file at the end of the year that your donations total $200 or more (total donations) or you won't get the same tax benefit from them. If not carry the donations forward

Also the Dream Center is a great place for toiletries they house 12 ladies and their children who have been sexually abused, in violent relationship, homeless etc. They take them in and they supply them with EVERYTHING so they are always looking for donations....just in case you didn't have enough places now ;-)
