Thread: Bad SuperStore Coupon Experience

What a bad coupon experience at Red Deer Superstore this morning. RCSS currently have $1.00 coupons on "any" Crest, Oral-B or scope Product. I took 15 of scope travel size at $1.09 and 20 crest toothpaste travel size at 99 cents. The cashier had no problem with it and began ringing in coupons, the first 9 went through fine until register stated limit exceeded. She needed a over-ride and along came Marie. O M G she was rolling her eyes as she looked at the coupons, and said to me, NO, You can only use one of these coupons. I explained that I have never had a problem using multiple coupons as long as it was just one coupon on one item. She persisted, only one coupon, I asked to see the store manager. The line up kept growing and it must have taken 15 minutes before the manager arrived. During which time i kept asking her if we could just put the coupons aside and ring through my few groceries so that the people in line would not have to wait any longer. She responded NO. I asked her this 8 times and each time she said NO. I said I didnt want the items, forget it, i will speak to the manager after i paid for my items - She would not have any of that, the lady behind me spoke up and said she had an appointment to get to, I apologized to her but she told me it wasn't my fault. Each time I asked Marie to just forget itand let me pay for just my groceries and deal with the coupons at the customer service desk, people in the line up started to speak up also and said yes, move it somewhere else, hurry up, lets move , come on, all sorts of things were being said by others. I told her that the 10 people that were now in the line up listening & watching this whole ordeal are going to want to speak with her manager also. She finally put the coupons aside and let me pay for my groceries. I saw the manager , he was excellent. his name is Riad. I explained the entire situation to him & that I have always been able to use multiple numbers of their store coupons. He said they have the right to limit the number of coupons but that they are usually pretty easy going with it, but does not like excessive coupons. I will now stop at customer service desk before I do my shopping and ask exactly how many of their coupons for a particular item i am permitted to use because it does appear that it is left up to whom ever is working in customer service. He said Superstore wants to encourage people to use their coupons there, I told him to visit us here at SmartCanucks to see for himself the number of people whom use coupons in Red Deer & I also informed him I would be sharing my experience on here with you all. Again He was excellent, he heard what I had to say, the cashier was amazing and I apologized to her several times, But Marie handled the entire situation unprofessional & I told her so. I Do Not understand why this was a problem today as I have often used 20 - 25 of a particular RCSS coupon on the corresponding number of items. I wish they had some sort of policy, that way when i do my shopping i know how many i can use and get on with my shopping. In conclusion: when using coupons at the RCSS, the number of a particular coupon that is allowed to be used is up to the disgression of which ever cashier you get or whom ever is up at customer service at the time. How Vague is that for a policy. .

I live in Red Deer. Some of those Coupon Zone coupons say one coupon I think per family or customer or person can't remember which.I think the coupon policy was the coupon can't be over the price of the product I got an email from Superstore years ago so if you have $1.00 coupon on $0.99 product it wouldn't have been allowed but I don't know about now.I guess their non policy is every situation is different so they adjust accordingly.

I was just at RCSS yesterday here in Red Deer and asked about there coupon usage. Of 1 CZ and 1 manufacture coupon. I had 3 Customer service people helping me and they all said I could use 1 of each up to the price of my item and not over. My example to them was the .30 Catelli coupon zone and the .30 catelli manufacture one that was at Sobey's. They said I coud use both. I mentioned that most of the CZ ones say cannot be combined with another coupon. the ladies again assured me that that was just for the CZ coupon. Meaning they didn't want a person using 2 CZ coupons on an item. But 1 CZ and manufacture is OK. I was happy about that.
Today I went and bought 1 watermelon (great price) and I saw those $1 crest/Scope coupons. I took 4 and there Crest toothpaste was on for .94. I have had them adjust a coupon before. So I was hoping using 4 of those coupons they would adjust each by .6 cents each. I went to self checkout as the other lines were so busy. I was there just before lunchtime today. The self checkout cashier let all 4 coupons go through and didn't adjust them. So toothpaste for free and the taxes paid.
After reading OP's comment I think I was just lucky.

I worked at the RCSS in Red Deer for 2 years a few years ago. In the beauty department, so altho not a named a cashier, we had a till and I used it (the only limit was not having a scale for produce).
Riad was also there when I was. He IS awesome.
I agree--a policy should be made and followed. it's gegting quite silly and frustrating!

I agree Smack. But when I asked for a written coupon policy they said RCSS doesn't have one. Maybe with all the coupon hype lately they will make one. It would help alot.

GrmmaGolfer: I am not surprised to hear this, superstore is getting so picky over coupon use lately. They better come up with a coupon policy pretty darn soon because they are going to see more & more coupons because with groceries going up worldwide, and the increasing availability of coupons, People are going to use many more of them. If superstore does not accommodate coupon use, couponers will just shop where couponers are actually welcome & encouraged. I can appreciate your frustrations GrammaGolfer because I was at No Frills in Sylvan lake today and tried to use 2 coupons on one item, One Manufacturer coupon and One superstore coupon. I have Always been able to do this, never had a problem with this. Well today the cashier ( JODY ) Whom was also the front end superviser would not let me do that, I explained that i do it there allllll the time there & at superstore and she said " Well Not Anymore". It is one coupon and only one coupon, that i could use either the superstore coupon or the manufacturer coupon, i choose neither & left the item. I won't bother going back there, I Live in Red Deer but would frequently stop at no frills during the summer, but not again. With Save-on-Foods allowing me to stack coupons, Walmart price matches, and targets coming to Red Deer and coop using competitors coupons. I do not need Superstores snotty attitude towards my couponing any longer. When Jody told me " Not Any More " I Felt like saying " You Got that Right - Bye-Bye Superstore".

You siad it SmackUTwice, it is getting rather frustrating to try to use a coupon at superstore, just easier to go elsewhere until superstore descides to make up their minds on coupons, there has got to be some concrete policy in place. I like to know what the rules are before I shop, not wait to see what surprises are going to happen at the cash register. PooPooRCSS.

sorry to hear about your yucky experience at RCSS. Marie sounds pleasant -NOT. She must be on a little power-trip or maybe she is new. I have noticed an increasingly bad attitude towards coupon use at Superstore also. I find the easiest place for coupons and get the best prices is Walmart, they do price-matches, and they will allow you to use coupons with a higher value than the item, so not only am i often getting free items at walmart, I am actually making money AND they will let you use an unlimited number of the same coupon as long as you just one per item. I Wonder why superstore is so negative towards coupon use now, they are making it so difficicult that it just isn't worth the hassel. It is becoming such a pain. On a diff note: I am really excited to see what Target brings Red Deer. I have checked out the target.com site and it looks really interesting with regards to coupons, they even have coupons on their site.

i am just starting to hate superstore with their crappy attitude towards shoppers that use coupons, they treat you like your second class. In the past year i have been doing much less shopping at superstore, and now with much more competition for them, more choices for shoppers, i certainly don't miss shopping at stupidstore.

I choose not to shop at Superstore for any kind of fresh food. I absolutely refuse because of a past experience! ):

nicmcgoo , don't you find that after a few bad experiences at a place really does have an effect on your overall impression, and does in fact prevent you from going back. That is just exactly how i am getting with superstore. Maybe if i just avoid that store for 6 - 9 months, maybe then i will have better luck than i have now. Honestly I just hate that store - and it is just because of the hassel each and every time i try to use a coupon. They don't have to make it as difficult as they do. Yet look at how easily it is to use muliple coupons per transaction at other places. Oh Well . . . I am Loving Save On Foods more & More

I moved here last summer from Edmonton and I have probably been in SS 3 times, I have bought clothes and some toys from there. This past week I decided to buy something from their fresh department and it seriously will make it so I NEVER shop there again. I don't want to say on this forum what happened because it is kinda one sided and until I get more information from their head office for an explanation I don't want to post it on any forum to be fair to them but ya it was that bad...

went so superstore today and tried to use one of their coupons & a manufactures coupon and the cashier didn't think they were doing that anymore so she talked with another person their from the front customer service desk, and she said they only allow 1 coupon per item, I explained i had done this numerous times there before, and still she would not allow it. It used to be great to use their cz coupons with a manufacture coupon, but doesn't look like we can do this at all anymore :-((
