I was reading one of the posts on this site last week that was discussing diapers. There was talk of stockpiling when a new baby is born and how you can exchange the package for a larger waist size if your baby grows fast. Turns out that in March Walmart changed their policy. They will not do exchanges without receipts. I brought in two packs of pullups that I had bought a few weeks ago in the wrong size. The lady at customer service just turned me away. I couldn't believe it! I took the diapers to RCSS and they exchanged them for me no problem but I was told that in the next little while they too will be changing their policies. Lesson learned? tape the receipt to the pack of diapers in case you need to exchange them!

I don't think it matters where you return an item. At Christmas time you can buy toys at Wal-mart and return them to Toys'r'us etc. Just an example. But without a receipt the store give GC's in its place. To stop people from making money by buying it on sale someplace and returning it to a store where its sold cheaper and the customer then makes money.
As long as RCSS carries that size of diaper the UPC's are the same. So they don't know where you bought it from.http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/PinkSapphire. Click to get FREE Giftcards just for searching the web. It is so easy.

It would be easy to profit from a sale in one store buy exchanging at another store. I see why they are changing their policies but with out signage to tell anyone what the policy is it is very irritating! I usually throw out my receipts so I never thought of taping the receipt to the package until this incident but I will from now on

I think some stores are putting a sticker with their logo on some of their items to try to stop this.
I think it affects their inventory and balancing of sales versus returns for the month.
The change in WM and RCSS policy may be a way for stores to keep a tigher reign of this practice.

I learned about the change in policy the same way - except my Walmart did give me a gift card and said that in the future they would not be doing this. I have since gone to the dollar store and bought a small plastic file folder (that has 12 divided sections in it) and all my receipts go in there as soon as I get home from a shop. This way I do not have to worry about losing the receipt or having a child 'accidentally' rip it off an item that i taped it to.
