I've recently found myself with way too much time on my hands (no summer classes) and while my weekends are full of camping, swimming and fishing (like the good maritimer that I am) when the weather's bad I want to start making my own jewelry!

Any tips on where I can get cheap supplies? I already have a lot of broken stuff I plan to mend/upcycle.

Whereabouts are you located? There are some great stores in downtown Toronto (Queen West, between Spadina & Augusta).

In terms of online buying, the best prices seem to be at beadsnap (http://beadsnap.com/). The only drawback is that there is a minimum order. 4 of my neighbours & I get together Monday nights to make pretty things & chat & eat chocolate cake (sometimes drink wine as well), so when one wants to place an order, we usually all find something or other we need.

http://www.artbeads.com/ also has decent prices & some very pretty things. They also have a great "learning center" with tips & tricks:

Fire Mountain Gems has some pretty items, but I find their pricing a bit high. Do sign up with them to get their Catalogue (it has some pretty designs in it, so great for getting ideas):

There's also all sorts of how-to info on the site:

The place I go to get findings is Arton on Queen West. Lots of pretty things.

A new place just opened, I'm hoping to get over there to check it out next week (they're out of Montreal, I think this is their first store outside PQ). Prices are supposed to be amazing, according to my friend.

    Hope this helps.
