"This is just like those crazy coupon shows!"
That's what the cashier said to me today at SDM.
I got the bonus pack of Head & Shoulders shampoo and the
Gillette Fusion ProGlide razor, sale-priced according to sign at $5.99.
It rang up as $7.99, the regular price, and after a quick check the supervisor says the sale is over but since the sign was still up, they'll honour the price. I thought, "Great!", as I pulled out my $2 Gillette razor coupon. Then she says since it was their mistake, I get it for free. Yay!
And I got two Colgate Totals, on sale for $1.49 with my $1.50 coupons.
Full-sized shampoo, razor and 2 toothpastes all for 0.39!!!
Just thought I'd share. This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart

Scrapy, the policy when something rings up wrong is called SCOP (Scanning Code of Practice) Most big stores follow the rules for SCOP except for Zellers, they do not participate. Walmart, RCSS, Home Depot, Metro, Can. Tire, Safeway, etc all participate. They should have a notice of it by their tills. There's a thread with all the rules about SCOP on here somewhere, or just google it. It'll have all the info.

Gah...I was in SDM a couple days ago and I bought Hawiian Tropic sunscreen. It was on sale for $7.99 and I had a $1 off coupon. I got the the cash and it rang up as $14...I told her the price was wrong and the cashier checked it out. Turned out the sale ended the day before but the signage was wrong. She did give it to my for the lower price...but I'm guessing it's up to their discretion as to whether or not I get it for free...

It isn't really discretion, it's a matter of bringing it up with the cashier if they don't offer it. Most cashier's won't bring it up, since it isn't to the store's advantage to give merchandise away for free. Also, the cashier may not know what to do. In that case, I would ask for a supervisor or manager. You were definitely entitled to that sunscreen at no charge.

The Scanning Code of Practice is a voluntary code that nearly every major retailer in Canada adheres to. It promises the customer accurate price scanning at the register on all UPC scanned or Price Look Up (PLU) merchandise. If an item scans in at a price higher than the shelf price the customer gets it for free (or $10 off if the item is more than $10)
The scanning code is endorsed by The Competition Bureau of Canada was created from the collaborative efforts of the Retail Council of Canada, the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores, the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers and the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors.
At participating retailers you should see this sign on the entrance doors and at the till that reads:
Scanning Code of Practice If the scanned price of a non-price item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your complaint.
