SCers with the same name??

Was just wondering if you allow SCers to have the same name.

I noticed that some have a number after their name if their chosen name is similar to an existing name.

So there wouldn't be a Shwa Girl and a Shwa Grrl.
But there can be a Shwa Girl and a Shwa Girl789.

I ask because a new SC has a verrrryy similar name to an "old" long timer.
What's the rule?

The admins don't individually allow names so the software just makes sure there isnt an identical name, I dont think its possible to decide what is too alike

Its a problem on most big forums

there are probs with the 2 of them having the same user name and I think out of repect for a long time contributing member, the new user's name should be changed.

Sally, when you do a search the user names are exactly the same , they even show the same on the members list. I clicked on the new user and was directed back to the older user and when I clicked on the older user I still got their home page.
I know that Boo has changed a user name before so why can't he do that this time?
He just needs to contact the newer user and ask if they want to change/add more to their name.

Kanda and bargain hunter lola, I read a post by a new user today. I was expecting a great post from a long posting SC, who usually has jaw dropping deals. So, I was a little confused. On a positive note, the long posting SC also posted today, with a great deal too. Guess I just have to look more closely at the names.

Hope there is only one Shwa Girl. It took me a long time to come up with this name.

Or even add a 789 to their chosen name, for easily confused SCers like me, lol.

With 127,780 members theres bound to be a few that are similar to one another.

The ones with the exact user name (nothing added to the end) I mean exact are being looked into by boo. But if someone joins as caroman244 or caromen its not viewed as the same as its a different name.

Theres a similar "coupon lady" on the board too.

oh, I understand about similar user names.
There is user with a name very similar to mine. I had contacted her (very pleasantly) to see if perhaps we have the same user name for the same reason. I felt like a crazy for doing so but I was curious
I was just concerned for this long time member-which I'm sure you guys are working on

2 users with the exact same username since more than a week now... reported to mod and Boo since 3 days now...

For the moment I'm not so rassured and don't think I will trade alot with that kind of thing happen on SC... exception of trader I already have addy and trade with on regular basis... This is disappointing for new trader, but this is what I will do on that website now.

I have a suggestion.

From now on, when a new member joins SC, could there be a search engine that evaluates their choice of SC name?

So, when "Jane Smith" joins, and wants to be called "Shwa Grrrl", a nice message will come up that says, "Thank you for joining SC. Unfortunately that name is not available. Please choose another name. Suggestion: Shwa Grll 789"
