I feel bad for the family (i don't know them) but the young man is my son's age.....& just breaks my heart!!!

Sadly....there will likely be more with the troops coming home soon!! They are gonna need more help!! imo!!

North American military lack adequate phychiatric and counselling support during war and when home from war.

and I totally agree. People who haven't experienced the military say how great it is, blah blah blah.. and I just shake my head. They throw you in the middle of no where having to fight for your life, and the life of the locals, then give you 'help' who's so drunk to numb their pain they don't know their left hand from right.

BUT i'm happy their coming back to Canada. Why can't we send troops over somewhere they show on TV that need $$ to hire people to put in water stations?

Sometimes it's young guys and gals who are enticed by the offer of free tuition. Sometimes recruits are looking for direction in what they should do in their life or what they should do for a career.

Bella I'm sorry for what happened to your father.

Sometimes people want to join the military because they feel they are doing a service to their country.
Things have changed in the past few years in regards to the help serving members receive. The majority of psycologists that are available on military bases are civilian and usually don't go overseas (some do). Help for PTSD has become more widely available. Many members do not want to admit they may need help because the military has such a macho atmosphere and they don't want to be preceived as weak.
I'm not defending the way things are, because the help for returning members can always be better, but I'm offering a different prespective.

This is so sad the Governments duty to the troops does not stop when their feet hit canadian soil again. I hope that this family gets the answers they want and need for closure and I hope that since our Government sent our men and women over there that they can help them when they return.

I cried when I read about this soldier thinking he was back in war because I witnessed my Grandfather doing the same things when he would have "episodes" thinking he was back in combat as well and it wasn't pretty, especially since I was only 8 and 9 when he was experiencing them the worse(he fought in WWII) PTSD is a NASTY thing for anyone but especially bad for those who have witnessed what they have in combat.

Therapy should be MANDATORY for anyone returning from a combat mission whether they think they need it or not.
It should be compulsory, just like training, you need to have X number of therapy sessions per week for X number of weeks.
There is no way that a person (male or female) can process that kind of information on their own. While on mission, you put everything aside so you can do your job, but when you return home is when the effects are really noticeable.
I feel so sad for families like Bella's and of this man. Hopefully more improvements are made to the military so that these tragedies will be avoided.

omg, i cant believe this is happening here in canada. Soldiers who have served should be a priority and be well taken care of. Isnt that common sense and the ethical thing to do? So sad....

Now that soldiers are starting to come back i think families who have gone through this should join hands and start a group or something that starts more awareness about this problem. I def didnt know this was happening, i knew about the post- depression but not about the weak support system.
