Each retailer seems to interpret the wording differently. I have been told to call a manager at WM if there is any problem with the way that the cashier interprets the coupon.

I just had the same thing happen to me at Walmart (Grandview location, Van.BC). The cashier was young, and polite and told me that I was only allowed to use one coupon per item and that's it! So, I couldn't buy 3 bic's relish x 3 - .75 coupon!! I tried explaining the difference between a transaction and purchase but it meant the same to her. She asked her supervisor and said that they would allow it this time. I was shocked! I've never been refused multiples of the same coupon at Walmart. She said this policy has been in place for the last 3 months. I need to find the Walmart coupon policy...

Someone needs to teach the companies the difference so they are all on the right page.

The following represents guidelines shared with our stores to facilitate coupon handling.

    • coupon is accepted only if store carries the item
    • must be presented at the time of purchase
    • only Canadian coupons are accepted
    • the item purchased must match the item presented on the coupon. (identical in size, quantity, brand, style, flavour, color and /
or any other specs used to identify the product on the coupon)
    • Expiration date must be present & be redeemed prior to the expiration

Types of coupons accepted by Walmart Canada:

    Print-at-home internet coupons:
    o must be legible
o must have "Manufacturer Coupon" printed on them
o have have a valid name & Canadian remit address
o must have a valid expiration date
o must have a scannable bar code
o can be buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons
o are acceptable in black, white or color

    Manufacturer's coupons
    o dollar/cents off
    o free items
o buy one get one free (BOGO)
    o has "Manufacturer Coupon" printed
    o must have valid name
o must have valid expiration date
o must have a scannable bar code
    • Competitors coupons qualify if:
o issued by a Canadian competitor
    o for a specific item for a specified price i.e. $2.99
o buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price
o they have a valid expiration date
o and are acceptable in black, white or color

    # of coupons that can be used for each item
    • only one acceptable coupon may be presented for each purchased item within a transaction
    • store managers reserve the right to limit quantities where multiple coupons are being used for multiple purchases of the same
    item

When coupon value exceeds the price of the item:
    • the excess amount can be given as cash or can be applied toward the basket purchase , at the customer's choice Free merchandise with a coupon (BOGO)
    • no sales tax is applied on the free merchandise

Hoping the information provided adds some clarity. I remain,
    Respectfully,

Jenny... The walmart I go to is great with coupons, so far at least.. I organise them and put the coupons with each set of purchases to make it easier now Ct on the other hand thinks of a purchase as a transaction so.. if the cashier says that..at CT I just say ok.. I don't mind doing it as 12 transactions if you'd rather do that...

I had a problem recently with a Giant tiger cashier , so I went back the next day with a printed copy of their policy and spoke to the customer service manager before I purchased the items I didnt get the day before.

Take the policy to the manager, point out the part that is applicable to your purchases and then ask if that is how they do it at that store. If she/he says yes, then just go ahead as usual. If they say no then contact the head office at walmart and ask them what the policy is and explain your problem.

Sometimes its just the staff don't understand the policy. I also think they think we are trying to get something for free (which we are) but they think it costs their company. That is the part that frustrates me. Thankfully the girl I talked to at GT was the one who submitted the coupons and she understood how much business came from it.
