Okay, I still have to leave the best details for ILD, and trust me there is at least one tidbit that didn't make the Rolling Stone review, but there is nothing in that article that wasn't right on the money.

No words can express my gratitude to ILD for honouring me with this trip. We had an amazing whirlwind blast of a time, and since I was with 3 ladies in Manhattan, I had to drink a Cosmo.

New Yorkers are nice. I know what you've heard, but everyone we talked to was super nice. Gave us directions and a smile, took photos of us, the whole thing. A couple of construction guys spotted us as Canadians when we posed next to a Tim Horton's banner.

We really only had two sit-down meals, and both times our servers were very nice Latinas. Frenchie (Francesca) in the Irish Pub was cute beyond words with a megawatt smile. Maria in Chevy's mexican restaurant was also very nice. She had two dates tatooed on her left arm, her brother's birthdate and the date that he was shot in the head in Brooklyn because somebody wanted his hat.

Go ahead and pose for pictures with cute young cops on the street, but not with heavily armed tactical guys in a subway station. While the ladies were posing with the cute cop, I noticed that his holster and weapon showed obvious signs of repeated use, in contrast to the brand-new look of a Toronto cop's gear.

We passed one firehouse and one Engine Company who were broken down on the street and waiting for the mechanics. All very accomodating for photos or talking shop. The firehouse had a memorial plaque to the 15 brothers they had lost on 9/11 so I had a few quiet moments there.

Yes they were the best! Frenchie even allowed us to pilfer a few Yankee glasses! Great souvenir.
