Wondering if anyone has suggestions on what they've used for hyperpigmentation? I have these brown spots/patches (esp. post-babies) and wondering if there's any products out there that you've found to be useful in getting rid of these trouble spots? It seems to be more of an asian problem? My mom gets them from the sun too...
    Thanks!

yep, hyperpigmentation is something that effect asians and mediterranean people more (according to a dermatologist i saw).

i found that bio oil really helped. i used it on my legs for some very bad scarring and the discolouration is gone. takes a little while though. apparently it can be used on your face as well. if you're like me, you get a dark spot every time you get even a tiny zit! but i'm lazy and just use concealer.

maybe also try some whitening creams to even out the skin tone?

I have the same problem. Try not to use oral contraceptives because one of the side effects. I use sunscreen all year round. Cellex C serum at night. Shiseido primer to minimize uneven tones. Light diffusing foundation over primer.

Sun protection cream may really help and of course, you also have toi engage on the regimen that can spare you from experiencing such. Hygiene and the use of hypoallergenic products is definitely a great idea.

I have a totally different skin problem. Mine is starting to have white spots. I saw a dermatologist. She gave me some ointment and it is not working. Any suggestions.

I didn't know this could be a side effect of oral contraceptives! I have this problem, but mine is I think caused by sun damage, I have what looks like freckles on my upper cheeks by my eyes, but they're not freckles. I'm very fair skinned so my skin gets damaged easily in the sun, and as a teenager I didn't take care of my skin the way I should have. So now I slather the sunscreen on everywhere and I've started using some day/night creams on my face...I hear though there are creams specifically for hyperpigmentation so I might try some of those.

I've been using the oral contraceptives for the past 18 months. I noticed the pigmentation is darker while I am taking them. I even go for facials that have 5% peeling. This works somewhat but 3 weeks later the pigmentation is back to same as before. Now, I off the pill for about 2 months, and I've noticed that my pigmentation is not as dark as before. I continue to use sunscreen everyday, even cloudy ones and Cellex at night or any cream that has Vitamin C.

All those fancy creams to lighten hyper pigmentation have a high cost associated with them. Some can be abrasive and cause irritation and others do nothing at all but a big whole in your pocket. Unfortunately, the search to find the 'one' that works for your skin type and actually receive 'ideal' benefit is expensive but we are females and we like to appear presentable in the public eye.

I just started using the skin whitening serum from H20 (got it from the buy 2 get 1 sale that's going on right now). I've noticed my skin looks nicer (has more glow), and the freckles on my face have faded a bit. I've only used this for less than a week.

I believe that you do need to use these products for awhile before noticing major changes.

For prevention though, a daily moisturizer with SPF protection is the way to go, I think.

I have melasma on my upper lip and 2 spots on my cheeks. It is very noticable in the sun, even after using sunscreen. I have been using a skin lightening cream for the last year with no difference.
Has anyone found a foundation or coverup that actually works to make it not as noticable?

Thanks for your suggestions so far, I think you are right about the oral contraceptives M.E.T, I first noticed the dark spots when I started the pill and my doc at the time warned me about hyperpig. as a possible side effect of going on the pill. Makes sense that it occurs with pregnancy/childbirth as well sinc eit's all related to our hormones..

So while I do practice safe-sun with my routine, I think it's more to do with hormones..which may make us more susceptible to extra darkening with sun exposure!
I'm going to look up the product mentioned by a few of you--Cellex-C and hopefully any other suggestions that come forth!
    Thanks all!

I wonder if it would be possible to have some kind of dermatological procedure done? microdermabrasion? Laser? Light? Peel? By the fifth month of my first pregnancy, I had two ugly dark spots of chloasma form. I hated them so much, that after my son was born, I kind of roughed them up (they bled a bit). Within a couple of days, they had scabbed, healed, and fallen off, leaving normal-looking skin underneath. I wonder if some kind of procedure might encourage the same process?
