I am wanting to try a recycling walk in my neighbourhood but would love a few pointers as I am SOOOO nervous!!!!

Do you take a bag to put everything in?

Is it better to go at night or in the morning and around what time?

Have you ever had anyone say anything to you?

Do dig or just go for the stuff on the top you can see?

How non-chalant do you try to be??

    Any tips would be appreciated!

    Thanks :D

I don't bring a bag cuz I only find maybe 5 inserts. Timing depends on your level of comfort! Morning will be easier since most people are at work, however evening is when people bring out the recycling. Also evenings you tend to be noticed more. No one has said a thing to me, they stare but I'm rummaging through their garbage so it's understandable. I dig down to the middle, never right to the bottom. I pretend not to notice the stares and just do what I came to do! I also bring my doggy to ease the awkwardness. Good luck !

I just came back and scored 20 p & g's, 15 red plums and about 3 smart source and
2 fpcs!! Oh and 2 icoke pins... And there was 2 of us so that was a really good haul! Not sure what my friend got, prolly around the same thing. There is really no pointers about it, you go when the pickings are good like definitely this week!!! A bag and a drink is always a good idea. I was waiting for the mother load down the street but no luck...the flyer delivery people live a few houses down and are good for a few but not this time around...I am pooped though!! According to the pedometer we walked 2.5 km!! Good luck!!!

if the recycle walks are a downer the upside is you are getting out and walking. I guess it's one way of looking at it.

I just started doing recycle walks three weeks ago. I LOVE them.

I bring a backpack with a drink and scissors that are good for cardboard. I go in the evening because I work in the morning and don't want to be out at 3am.

I have had a couple people chat with me. One person seemed weirded out by the idea but this evening I had 4 different people say "dig right in!". If people are outside in the yard when I am going to their bin, I ask. If no one is around I just go for it and I dig right in unless it's filled with bottles and cans that are noisy and hard to move around quietly.

I make sure that if I move anything around I try to put it back the way it was, or I put it back better so that it will all stay in there.
