Superstore & Coupons

I am having huge issues at superstore in Vancouver, BC. They are NOT happy about coupons at all. They are fine if you use there in-store coupons, but the second you pull out your own it's a problem. I either get cashiers unwilling to run them through or they put in 4 coupons and the system tells them they cant put anymore in without an override, so they need a manager every time. I'm getting seriously fed up with the customer service. :rant:


Wondering if anyone has advice or is having the same issues?

Also, can someone run me through the coupon process of "free" items. Like for the 3.00 purex soap coupon, the soap was on for 2.99, do you always pay the tax? or does the coupon cover the whole thing?

hi, here in atlantic canada, truro, to be exact, i let the cashier know that i have more than $10 in coupons, that is the limit, after that an override is needed. If you use the coupons that are on the shelf, for some reason these do not apply.
you have to pay the tax on the items, like the skinny cow coupons that were on the cereal for awhile, it was 4.49...the coupon was for $5, but the coupon was only worth 4.49 (hey, free is free!), but I still had to pay 15% tax on it, I look at it that I got 5 ice cream bars for 34 cents...i am more than happy with that!
maybe if you let them know ahead of time that you have more coupons, then they can get someone to come override them ahead of time.

I have the same problem in Nova Scotia. I just make sure I tell the cashier ahead of time and she calls someone over then they stay and check the order then take off my coupons. Takes longer, I feel sorry for the people behind me, but hey I save myself $40 plus most big trips so its all worth it. I always try to joke with the cashier helps to lighten them up a bit but some really dont care about the coupons. I hope that your store gets use to couponing and helps you out good luck and HAPPY COUPONING!!!!

I noticed here that RCSS has gotten rid of all manufacturer coupons that they had on the coupon board and only have coupon zone now. Also everything seems just a wee bit more expensive than say a month or two ago.

I, as well, hate couponing at RCSS vancouver, especially the Grandview Hwy location.

Here's my advice to you. Never use more than 10$ worth of coupon at any RCSS or else you will need an override.

Also, you still have to pay tax on the example that you use. The only time that you don't have to pay tax is when the coupon is a "free product coupon" and when it states "gst/hst or any applicable tax is included in the coupon face value," or if the coupon cost more than the product and covers the tax, but it also must state "gst/hst is included..." For instance, if Purex are on sale for the price of 2$ and your coupon is worth 3$, then you won't have to pay tax because the coupon covers the tax. However, if the Purex are on sale for the price of 2.99 and your coupon is worth 3$, then you will be paying 35 cents tax because the coupon will cover only 1 cent of the tax.

Also, you will only get overage at Walmart.

Not sure if you are shopping at RCSS on marine drive or the one on grandview, but i have not had any problems at the one on grandview. I sometimes split my order into 2 separate orders so that cashier doesn't have to call for override. Just make sure you have less than $10 in coupons per order. This also helps to not have the people in line behind get irritated. hope this helps

I find RCSS and Loblaws suck for places to get coupons. Asides from using them sometimes at No Frills when something is a good deal, the CZ coupons are very lacking. Almost like Loblaws is trying to be "cool" and play the game of coupons, but it just cant with those. I dont even keep CZ coupons in my regular binder now...they are wadded up in the back *just in case* a deal happens they will work with. Kinda like an old tissue in a jacket's pocket that may be handy but usually just gets washed and ultimately creates more trouble than its worth. They dont even feel like a real coupon LOL. Cheap generic knock offs. Wow. That felt GREAT to vent.

I've had problems using printed coupons at RCSS at the Marine Drive location. Cashiers won't accept them because they don't accept photocopies and they "can't tell if its a photocopy". Even though I tell them where the coupon was printed from, they won't accept it.

I no longer bother with using any printed coupons with them now.

However, on my last big shopping trip there, I did have a lot of coupons and the cashier had no problem getting an over-ride. I was there near closing time when they were announcing that the store would be closing and would everyone head to check-out. The manager didn't even bat an eye at all my coupons. She also got there quick (probably cuz it was closing time and they wanted everyone out).

I use lots of coupons when I go to my Superstore, I go to the self check out, and when I'm done putting all my stuff through I hand all my coupons to the person at the self checkout desk. This is how I make using my coupons at Superstore easy, I use coupons everytime I go to Superstore. The coupons that say "free" I write the price of that item on the coupon-so all they have to do is look at what I wrote and enter in that amount. This makes it a lot easier if I have a bunch of different ones, stores get confused when they have to try and scroll up or down and figure out how much that product was. Be sure to read your coupons, a lot of coupons say GST and PST included in the coupon so even if your coupon is for max $6.00 and the item is $4.00 you will have $2.00 to use towards tax, if the tax was that much, this is something you have to notice, the store will never tell you that and they will just enter $5.00 and you will end up paying money on tax when you didn't have to. For those coupons I add it up myself and would write $4.52 on the coupon. I have my blackberry with me when I go all the time and a pen in my coupon folder. Those $3.00 Purex coupons doesn't say anything about tax so you have to pay for it. If you don't realize that tax is included in a bunch of your coupons, it can add up and you could have spend money that was covered in your coupon. When I hand over all my coupons, I say I have written the price on the coupons the item and the ones that included tax I added it up and write it on the coupon as well. It always goes smoothly. Also they just over ride the coupons when it hits the $10 mark, at the self checkout, it's a lot easier to hand all your coupons to them and they over ride it themselves instead of trying to enter the coupons yourself and having them come over to over ride them all.

l was going to say the self check out of put in grocery in two or three batch and pay for them seperately

Ours in Duncan is horrible! I try to only use one or 2 at a time, and will price match everything at my walmart and buy it there instead. They make me put each one thu in a separate transaction. I went to the front to get it figured out and they said no, the cashiers should let me do them all at once. Then I go thru again and have the same issue. I always put my coupon stuff at the end there or they have to over ride EVERY thing I buy over their limit. I have a few coupons to use this week there, and I`m just dreading it!

I go to a fantastic lady at my SS and she loves to see me coming - she gets a kick out of 'the crazy coupon lady' and she calls a manager as soon as I show up so she is on stand by for the over ride... on Tuesday I used over $46 in coupons and saved 51% on my total..... she has really liked some of the deals that I get and i will often drop her off an evie with those in it :)
I haven't fought with them over the tax yet, so far I just suck it ip as one of the perks of getting good deals but the other day at Walmart I was ticked when my total was just over $15 and over $13 was HST Booo!

I have had some problems on Grandview Highway. They have refused to take a coupon because it was more than the item, and refused to mark down the coupon. I usually try to go through self check out and always do batches if I have more than $10 in coupons. I find Marine Drive a lot better, but it is a lot further to drive there. :)

Wow, thanks for all the support and responses. I was feeling overly frustrated yesterday, having to write a huge letter to loblaws, about some terrible cashiers I had run into. To be honest it makes me want to do my shopping at safeway and walmart, and use my coupons freely. I will take some of this advice and apply it. Keep it coming, as i can use all the advice I can get! I coupon at the Pitt Meadows store and was told by a fellow couponer that the best bet is self checkout. Do I want to put through a big order of groceries through at self checkout? Not particularly. But, the PM and couponing I've done for small orders at self checkout have been very smooth.

I do find it's not the quickest and smoothest transaction at RCSS, but I'm never hassled about the coupons I've used and I've had up to $40 in coupons at a time. Ya, it's a PITA to have to get the CSR to override it, but now that I've figured that out, I wait patiently, bagging my groceries and feel bad for the growing line behind me.

I find shopping in general to be a pain at RCSS because I hate bagging my own groceries.
