Trying to do research on birthday cakes. Can't decide whether I should just order from my usual cake lady or do my own for DD's birthday.

I'm doing a MLP (my little pony) theme and thought it would be cool to do a rainbow cake! I bought a bunch of supplies today to try it out.

Thank goodness her bday isn't until December. I have loads of time to perfect my cake skills before her party. lol.

I think I prefer the rainbow layer look:

Although I only plan on 6 layers (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple).

I love the rainbow layer cake idea! I've only ever made the concentric circles ones, plus the checkerboard.

This is what I'd like the end result to look like, but probably without the rainbow on top (not that talented) and with a MLP plastic pony cake topper.

I thought of doing this style but I think I prefer the layer kind, looks neater and the colour is even. But they all look yummy of course! lol

This is what DD's 1st birthday cake looked like. I had the cake lady do it and I just added on the Care Bear figures myself.
