If you have some time before you're going, check travelzoo.com. They have a weekly email of their top 20 deals that comes out every Wednesday, or you can just look on their website. I recently got an excellent deal for a hotel in Montreal via Travelzoo. Good luck!

Try hotels.com, expedia.ca, travelocity.ca or go right to a website for a chain and check their availability. If you are a CAA member or a Senior, or a teacher or government worker they sometimes have discounts - ask them for their BEST price.

If you have an entertainment card, call the hotel directly and see if they have a good discount. Also, don't forget about priceline, name your own price. This is the only way I ever book hotels now, all 4* less than $100.

I forgot the name of the site ..but its a site where you can bid the price you are willing to pay for a hotel room & if your bid is filled you get it for that price

Its a pretty reputable site & actually know people who have used it .

DO NOT use hotels.com, travelocity or expedia. They SAY they are cheaper than the hotel's rate but they rarely ever are. In fact they are usually more expensive than the hotel's standard rate of the day. Trust me, I work front desk in a hotel and see it all the time.

Call the hotel directly and see what they can do. Here are examples of discounts that can be applied at most hotels:
CAA, Senior, CARP/AARP, CPSA, if you are traveling on business you can usually get a corporate rate, if you work for a major company (Walmart, Sears, Future Shop, all airlines etc) they have discounts for those companies, Canadian Government and Military to name a few.

Also, most hotel chains offer an online booking discount. For example: Choice Hotels you IMMEDIATELY save around 10% (give or take) off the standard rate of the day by booking online. A room that was $89.99 when you called the hotel is $79.99 on their website choicehotels.ca. PLUS most of the time you can combine a discount mentioned above with the online booking discount (this can only be done online). So now, for instance, you are getting the CAA discount (usually 20%) + the online booking discount (usually 10%) saving you 30% off the hotel.

ALSO, be sure to to check out what taxes and fees the hotel charges you. Some hotels charge you a destination fee, resort fee, a marketing fee, parking fee and other fees ontop of the HST. You can end up paying 18% (I've seen more!) in taxes/fees.

Call around and look around at the chains actual website and do a cost comparison is my best advice.

Other than Priceline already mentioned, it's hotwire.
