I think couponing in general is like a game. How much can I buy for as little as possible. Always with the thought in mind that you need the items in question or are going to donate. Which I do lots of. I find couponing a challenge, a stress relief from the everyday, a moment to myself without the kids hounding me (as I usually do it when the kids are in bed), and its plain old fun.
AM's just adds another aspect to the couponing. I buy all my groceries at either Safeway or Sobey's. So the AM game is just as fun as couponing and some weeks they overlap nicely.
I also love this thread because Bob does such a great job. It helps to see what he thinks is a great deal.
This week I will be buying crackers but that's about it. I think it is buy 5 get 50AM's and $2.49 is a good deal. Can be as cheap as $1.99 sometimes. But with the AM's $2.49 is good and the kids like them. I only have 1 box left downstairs as I have 36 boxes of cereal. LOL. But we eat huge amounts of cereal. At least 5 boxes a week. So I have about 2 months worth of cereal. Just need to catch up with the crackers now.
Thanks Coley,
I do it because I have fun.
Also, I really believe in what goes around comes around.
I write for a national magazine teaching people how to buy stocks without paying commissions. I've helped a lot of people save a lot of money and it's a laugh how often I get Tim Horton gift cards or similar in the mail from someone.
OK, the plum tomatoes are large tins, BOGO @ $2.49
So each tin is $1.245 (Other brands on the shelf at Safeway are $2.51/tin)
I'm not sure if you can find large tinned tomatoes better than that price at other stores but if you value the Airmiles into the equation @ $0.11/AM you're effectively paying $0.695/tin.
@ $0.1143 it's $0.67/tin
@ $0.133 it's $0.58/tin
So all in all the plum tomatoes look like an excellent deal and Chilli season isn't that far away and I make a mean 5 alarm chilli. :Thin5:
^^^would LOVE that recipe!!! I tried making a batch of vegetarian chili for my SIL when she was pregnant and it was a disaster. I'm actually a really good cook, but for some reason I just can't make good chili :(
We remodeled recently and all our recipes are stored in boxes in a locker at the moment. When we get them out I'll try to remember to get it for you. Got it from Men's Health magazine.
I do remember:
5 TBSP Chilli powder and balsamic vinegar.
Well, some of the techies certainly took advantage:
This was marked "Sold Out" as it went online. Did you get one Ron?Quote:

Diamond Tennis Bracelet
2,950
AIR MILES® reward miles
Sold Out!
It Sold Out before Safeway posted, but was available for approx. a minute if you were refreshing the Group Buy page. I tried looking eBay COMPLETED auctions the closest bracelet I saw to this that has actually sold went for $650.
It came up for me and in the 30 seconds it took for me to decide if I wanted it, it sold out. Oh well, was only looking to resell it anyways.
No.. I passed on this one.
If you go to the Group Buy page.. items appear there before the main page. The countdown timer starts with 1 day xx min/sec. I think when it hits the 1 day mark, it appears on the main page. The thing is.. 'sales' can happen before it hits that.. and that was happening this morning. This is why the item was almost sold out before it hit the main page.
Ron.
Already got the necklace for my wife anyway.
Good week to use the B1G1 Peek Freen coupons.
Where'd you get the coupons?
OK, got it. You have to like them on Facebook. Coupons available sometime tomorrow:
https://www.facebook.com/PeekFreansLifestyleSelections
The PF BOGO coupon was from a prior FB promo. I wonder if we'll be able to get the other one tomorrow as well...
As a BOGO it becomes 1.75/0.65Quote:

That's what I really like looking at Ron. What are the real savings with AirMiles. So it looks like after the AirMiles you're keeping about $0.35/package of real cash in your pocket vs. buying best price elsewhere.Quote:

These are often $1.99 or less at No Frills and Shoppers Drug Mart (on Weekend Special). With a BOGO would be $1.00.
Yes, good point. To maximize value at Safeway, you would have to 'buy' 6 packages and have 3 coupons. You would not get any Air Miles value for your 6th package. At No Frills/SDM you could buy as little as 2 packages having only 1 coupon - afaik these coupons aren't around in big quantities.
Ron.
Well, if they're on Facebook you should be able to print off 5 and you could be 10 if it makes sense to store them.
$0.35 x 10 = $3.50 in your pocket.
Might not seem much but again "mind the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves".
Which brings up my secret life writing for a financial magazine teaching people how to avoid paying commissions to stock brokers and mutual fund salespeople. The following is the story about Grace Groner who passed away recently at around 100 years. She made a $180 investment in a dividend reinvestment plan and let it sit. Check it out to see what it grew to. Multiply the amount by .04 to find out what it was paying her yearly in tax advantaged dividends. You don't hear about these plans because:
1. brokers and mutual fund salespeople do not get a commission from them so there's no incentive to sell them, and,
2. companies offering them, like Bank of Montreal, Bell, Telus, etc., are in a conflict of interest situation so legally can't promote them

Interesting read Bob. I know my husband and I have to do more for our long term savings. We have stocks etc. that I picked out years ago through his company. Twice a year I get some pieces of paper telling me how much profit I made. Don't really understand it at all. Not sure if we pay someone to take care of it as it comes off his pay cheque and I have never talked to anyone personally. Seems pretty lazy and sad on my part to not know what's going on with our money. I suppose I just see it going up and think its good enough. I really just have no clue about these things.

I subscribe to the tenet, "No one will look after your money better than you will."
If you're interested in these things suggest you check out this thread instead of discussing it here
