I really loved the Coke promo...I have to take a look next time I am in Safeway.

Thanks Bob! I got the awesome hunts deal. I can also confirm that the 1 litre coke deal is still on. I got that today as well.

Looking at Safeway's offer on Fusion Razor Blades (not counting tax here):
At RCSS I can get 1 razor with 2 blades for $1.99 after a $4 coupon.
4 blades then would cost 2 x $1.99 = $3.98
It is quite common to find 4 Blades for around $16-$17 which would be $12-$13 after a $4 coupon. RCSS's price on 2 razors with 2 blades at $3.98 is a significant savings.
Looking at Safeway the price on a 4 pack of blades this week on sale is $9.99. After a $4 coupon it's $5.99 but it comes with a B2G50 AM offer as well. That's $3.50 each package giving an effective price of $2.49 vs. RCSS's $3.98
In real cash examples:
a. Using Shell's conversion the actual real cash cost is:
$5.99 - ($0.1143/AM x 25) = $5.99 - $2.86 = $3.13 which is still 21.4% better than RCSS
That's real cash savings in your pocket.
I will be using AMs for BW travel cards later this year. They convert @ $0.133/AM. In this case each package I purchase will actually save:
$5.99 - ($0.133/AM x 25) = $5.99 - $3.33 = $2.66
on my hotel costs.
Small amount but I'm reminded of "Mind the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves."
I just got the new flyer..
and on the first page, it states that on June 1st (i think), you can either get 10% off your purchases or 10x the bonus miles...
just wondering, is the 10x the bonus miles on the base miles ($20=1 mile)? or is it on the bonus miles from participating products?
This week they will have B5G60 for evian and coke..and those are 3 for $4 or 3 for $5. Wondering if the bonus on June 1st will be 10 x bonus miles or base...
Thanks,
It'll be on the base miles.
You are always better off taking the 10% in cash.
Not counting taxes:Quote:
This week they will have B5G60 for evian and coke..and those are 3 for $4 or 3 for $5.
3/$4 = $1.33 - $1.68 = -0.35 effectively each (You're being paid to shop gaining 35 cents/each)
3/$5 = $1.67 - $1.68 = -$0.01 effectively each (You're being paid to shop gaining 1 cent/each)
On 10% Tuesday (minimum $35 total purchase) it's:
3/$3.60 = $1.20 - $1.68 = -0.48 effectively each (You're being paid to shop gaining 48 cents/each)
3/$4.50 = $1.50 - $1.68 = -$0.18 effectively each (You're being paid to shop gaining 18 cents/each)
Sounds like I can load up on the 2L Caffeine Free!
P.1 is updated.
Note: there is also an outstanding offer on Windex if you have any $2 coupons!
..and if you can stand more pop, there's a coupon floating around - buy 2 2l coke product and get 1.5l fanta free.
from Newfbc on another site:
Quote:
I just returned from a trip to King George Safeway (Store #0001). Bought 10 Coke Zero and 5 Fanta (w free coupon). 15 Items total. Should have received 180 Air Miles (buy 5 get 60)... my receipt showed 100. Weird.
Talked to assistant manager at Customer Service.. he wasn't much help.. told me to call Air Miles. We all know, Air Miles has nothing to do with something like this.. it's Safeway. Made a call to Safeway Customer Service (yes, they're open on Saturday!).. talked to a friendly lady.. took my info and said someone would 'research' the issue. We talked about it for a bit, I suggested the only thing that makes sense is if it were set to buy 6, get 50 AM. That way buy buying 12 (or 15 in my case), 100 AM would be correct. She put me on hold.. came back in a few minutes and said yes, there was an error in the flyer, and it should be buy 6 get 50 AM. Uh oh!
I told her I expected the 180 AM for what I bought.. she made note.
This is a big mess up... a lot of people will buy the 5 products and get no AM. Not sure what Safeway will do.
If you're ever short changed AMs at Safeway one thing you can do is go to customer service. They have a booklet to report missing AMs that get credited to your account later.
Quicker though is to get them to do a "phatom sale".
What CS will do is ring in a sale using your AirMiles card. They then refund the sale immediately but don't use your AirMiles card so the AMs don't get cancelled. You have to be nice to the CSR as it's not official policy.
As this is the spot about air miles I thought I would comment.
My husband and I are taking a trip to San Francisco. Decided to use our air miles for the first time ever. Found a flight we liked. Called air miles. They booked it but our taxes were another $100 on top of the already paid airport tax. Called back to find out why on the West Jet seat sale taxes were $241 but Air Miles is charging $341ish. They said West Jet sells them the seats at a higher price than any seat sale so we the consumer have to pay the tax on that rate and not the seat sale rate. What a crock really. I suppose had we known it wouldn't have come as such a shock.
The flight for us both was $847 without air miles . With using air miles it is $341. So all in all still a great deal. Just a shock though. Oh and the $25 processing fee as well.
Just in case anyone else is going to do the same thing.
note: my store had notices all over stating the buy 5 get 60 am should read buy 6 get 50 am for the coke product event
You pay the taxes extra on several things even on hotels I recall.
You can avoid the tax on hotels by buying gift cards for Best Western instead of using AMs to purchase rooms directly.
Just a heads up the b6g50 on Coke products includes the 1.5l Fanta and at my safeway they had Buy 2 2l Coke get 1 1.5L Fanta free coupon. So I only spent $6.67 for 50 airmiles great deal and will be even better on Tuesday
wow, that would make it a really great deal, only really having to buy 4 2L and then getting the 2 fanta free with coupons! and the airmiles.
I have a quick question for the OP (or anyone who can answer), can I do the airmiles offers more than once in a transaction,
ie: could i buy 18 Coke products and get 150 airmiles? or can I only do each offer once.
Thanks Operabob. We were thinking of going with Best Western. Now I know to go with the giftcards. It really helps.
I can't wait to use the Coke promo as well. In Red Deer we get 15% off tuesday. So even better. I also have a few coupons too incase the store doesn't have them.
Omg, I bought the exact same set of pop on Saturday at Safeway (10 bottles of 2L and got 5 bottles of 1.5L Fanta for free) I got 100 AM only too...I went to the customer service and they told me I only get AM for the 10 bottles of 2L and they will add the other 20 AM manually later. I tried to argue I should get 180 AM (for the 15 bottles in total) but they insist Fanta is not part of the AM offer (even though there's the tag under the Fanta price tag)
I was thinking of calling Safeway customer service but now I guess I won't if they consider the promo as a typo in the flyer...
thanks Bellini! looks like i'll be stocking up on pop for the next couple months tomorrow.
I actually have a second question, whats the best thing to redeem for, that equals the most money back? what does everyone here usually redeem for.
Can anyone tell me the best way to redeem my air miles for a 1 week car rental? Is it better just to redeem for the $100 Budget gift Certificates or call air miles and rent a car?
Being your basic obsessive compulsive I decided to revisit values and checked as many gift card/certificates as I could. I by no means got them all. The following list picks the highest value possible as some cards reduce the number of AirMiles needed to make a purchase for larger valued cards. Being smart shoppers that's what we'd do.
Here are many values:
Fashion
Banana Republic 13.5
Danier 13.8
GAP 13.7
HBC/Z 12.5
IRIS 16.0
Roots 16.0

Best Western 13.3
Club Voyages 13
Delta Hotels 13.7
Hilton Hotels 12.5
Marlin, etc. 13.0
Via Rail 14.3
Not included: City Pass (each city has to be calculated individually but as I recall they were above 20.0 last time I looked).
The list is by no means exhaustive but only 4 of the above 47 are in the 12.0 range:
Shell 11.43
Staples 11.11
Rexall 11.9
Metro 12.2
23 of 47 (almost exactly half) are 13.5 or above therefore I feel 14.0 is a reasonable and cautious average in Valuing AirMiles. (Yes, I accounted for multiples).
I don't exchange for products. Rather I go for Zellers gift cards and buy there if needed.
You can also do well exchanging for AirFlights but it varies tremendously depending on date, time and where you're coming/going to:
Decided to look at a few flights just to get a sense of value.
1. Opted for a regional and major centre comparison
2. Short haul and longer haul.
3. Picked June 1 as a start date and June 8 as a return.
4. Looked at the full week from June 1 - June 7 and June 8 - 14 as prices vary wildly depending on the day and time of day you travel. I opted for the cheapest flight on each day.
A. Williams Lake to Medicine Hat return
1200 AMs needed (I believe that's return)
Total cost ranged from $551 to $1040 depending on the day of travel
AirMile valuations range from $0.46/AM ( $551/1200) to $0.87/AM. ($1040/1200)
B. Vancouver to Medicine Hat return
1200 AMs needed
Total cost ranged from $396 to $633 depending on the day of travel
AirMile valuations range from $0.33/AM ( $396/1200) to $0.53/AM. ($633/1200)
C. Vancouver to Toronto return
4225 AMs needed
Total cost ranged from $428 to $543 depending on the day of travel
AirMile valuations range from $0.10/AM ( $428/4225) to $0.13/AM. ($543/4225)
D. Williams Lake to Toronto return
Total cost ranged from $837 to $1591 depending on the day of travel
AirMile valuations range from $0.20/AM ( $837/4225) to $0.38/AM. ($1591/4225)
On the car rental I'd opt for the card and negotiate the price with the local office.
Sometimes you can call your local outlet 3 different times and get 3 different prices then pick the best price. Pick the best one.
If you can do it through AirMiles they'll charge the premium/rack rate is my guess.
I wouldn't buy the US cards. The AirMiles rate was set back when our dollar was $0.62. Not a good deal today.
Generally, flights from/to regional airports are your best deal by far. The Vancouver to Toronto return clocked in at $0.10-$0.13/AM.
I just looked at Victoria to Los Angeles return over the same time period:
$0.17-$0.26
Pretty good actually.
Did anyone receive their 50 airmiles when you buy 2 softly (safeway brand) bathroon tissue?
Rub it in! Rub it in!Quote:
don't think you've factored in the buy 40$ get 50 AM bonus that applies here in Thunder Bay-
Actually today's local paper indicated a RCSS will be moving in nearby. It's practically in the mid point of our 3 local Safeways so perhaps we'll start getting those deals too.
Have you got a PLU code for the offer?
There is a bar code on the card that they give us, but on the back it said Valid only in Thunder Bay--was supposed to have expired 12/31/09, but they did extend it to 6/30/2010, but no further extensions announced--but I cant see how they wouldn't--it drives so many extra purchases there (myself alone)!!!
Like two weeks ago--I bought 18 twelve packs of Diet Dr. Pepper and Crush (18 products each day for the 3 day special (deal was buy 3 for 11$ get 30 AM, and had the $2 off coupons when you bought 2) so out of pocket was about 165$ (55$ each day times three days), Total AM--696 (including the 3 of 40$ get you 50AM bonus, but no including AM on Amex AM card)...I know I spent 55$ instead of the 40, but 18 was an even number to use to max coupon usage. Anyhow --I will let you do the math (which I'd love to see, btw), but I think I did OK!!
