I am petrified of Pressure canners.. My sister blew up her WHOLE kitchen with one of these and I have never used one since...
There are lots of canning I don't do because of my fear of the pressure canners. I know I am limited to pickling only but I just cant get passed the horrid view of my sister's kitchen...

Yep the whole kitchen went KABOOM.... And the best blessing out of this was that she left he infant son in his seat on the table and then went to get something in the bathroom.. My niece took her brother into her room just before the whole thing blew up.. My nephew would not be here today if his sister did have the idea to take him into her room to play...

I learned to can from my mom. Try and do 100 jars of dills a year plus salsa, jams & jellies and tomatoes. Excellent directions now on the internet now so I encourage people to at least try preserving food. My kids love my pickles and jam just tastes so much better when u make it yourself.

I just got my pressure canner yesterday from the receiver in Sumas. I ordered it from Target for $22 plus shipping to Sumas - about $30 US.
My toddler was sleeping on the way back so the border guard didn't make us go in even though we were $20 over our limit for the day
And now I am jealous of your jars. Good haul!My blog is Resolving Timeline Issues

I hope you can find the rings on sale somewhere though...I have tons of jars, but most of the rings had to be tossed over the years...they are the super expensive part! I buy the snap-lids at the dollar store though

dolorama for the snap cap
price at dolorama is 1.25$
and after treatment and sitting 24h on the counter, remove the ring, wash the jar and store the jar without the ring.
This way you don't need a big quantity of ring

WTG! you can also use jars for spice storage! I'm planning on replacing all my itty bitty jars in my bottom spice drawer and use mason jars with the name of the spice on the lids.

I've got pretty much the same deal, but for way, WAY less jars! I've 40 (1liter) for 4$. I think it's awesome to reuse like that. And chuch bazar always got the best deal. Try the Catholic Church in Sutton every Saturday form 8am to 12pm. They got LOT of great stuff! Love love love preserving!
