Hey Everyone,
I know for that this is not really a Freebie, but I thought it might be worth sharing with everyone. For the longest time now AirMiles have been non-transferrable; So if two people in the same household were collecting them on two different cards, then you could not put them together and use them towards the same (big) purchase/redemption on airmiles.ca . This morning I was browsing on the Air Miles website, when I came across a little ad for Airmiles becoming transferrable. I clicked on it, and this is what I got; The gist of it is that it will cost $0.15 per Air Mile Transferred, and you have to call the Customer Care Centre (which means no online transfers). This may not be new to everyone, but it is definitely new to me I think in certain situations it could be useful, even though there is a fee to pay
Transfer of reward miles, Q & A
What is new?
AIR MILES is introducing a new feature that will enable Collectors to transfer some or all of their AIR MILES reward miles to another Collector. This new feature benefits those who wish to gift some of their reward miles or prevent their accounts from being closed due to inactivity. With the new ability to transfer reward miles, AIR MILES Collectors now have four ways to keep their accounts active - earning, redeeming, donating and now transferring reward miles.
Why would a Collector want to transfer reward miles
Collectors have been asking for this feature. We listened carefully to feedback from our Collectors - they told us they wanted more options with their reward miles, and we delivered. The new transfer feature benefits those who wish to gift some of their AIR MILES reward miles or prevent their accounts from being closed due to lack of activity for 24 consecutive months.
How does this policy differ from before?
Previously, the AIR MILES Reward Program allowed the transfer and consolidation of accounts in the case of AIR MILES for Small Business, as well as Collectors experiencing certain life changes or circumstances, such as the death of a family member. Today, AIR MILES is introducing a new feature that will enable Collectors to transfer some or all of their AIR MILES reward miles to another Collector.
Is there a fee to transfer reward miles?
The fee to transfer AIR MILES reward miles from one account to another is 15 cents per mile.
How do I transfer reward miles?
To transfer reward miles, Collectors must call the AIR MILES Customer Care Centre and provide the following information:
- •Validate their Collector account by a Customer Care Specialist
- •Number of reward miles to be transferred
- •Primary Collector name and Collector number on the account reward miles are to be transferred to
The Customer Care Centre can be reached at 1-888-AIR MILES (247-6453). Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern, 9:00 AM Atlantic, and 9:30 AM Newfoundland Time to 7:00 PM your local time. We are also available Saturdays 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern. This thread is currently associated with: Air Miles

Not bad too bad they have to charge such a high fee to transfer but a start in the right direction

I think the fee is pretty steep really. For example, if someone had 5000 airmiles and wasn't interested in using them so was going to give them to me, it would cost me $750.00 to have airmiles that someone already earned transferred over to me.

My DH is the Airmiles collector in our family...and he has gotten many cards and just given them to his family and myself and all the points go to his account...it is so great because his mom loves to shop at metro and his dad loves the LCBO....LOTSO POINTS!!
The airmiles website allows you to get the additional cards so it is all above board. We have redeemed for so many appliances etc...

It's been like that for months. I almost went through with it till I realized how much it cost. I told the girl at airmiles how unimpressed I was. Its not worth it at all
Its FREE sample month at well.ca. With every order over $30 you get free stuff. As always free shipping. Not only that, but if its your first order, use code "MBFA2012" and get $10 off $40 on your first order. www.well.ca is an online store similar to shoppers. It ships everything from diapers to cleaning products right to your door. Plus this coupon rocks!!!

That fee is nuts! To get a $20 Sobeys GC (Atlantic Canada only) it costs 175 airmiles. So, $20/175 airmiles makes each airmile worth just over 11 cents. Why the heck would anyone pay 15 cents to transfer an 11 cent airmile?! Crazy!

You can't just equate the worth of an airmile based on the small redemptions. The best value of airmiles is generally flight upgrades. So if you compare the cost of an economy ticket and a business class ticket, then the miles required to make the upgrade from economy to business class, you will see it is worth a lot more.
But it all depends on what you spend them on.
What its 'worth' to you depends on how you use them.

IMO it's better to get extra cards... I wouldnt' spend the money for the airmiles .15 each is way too much... Considering it's just a click of the keyboard...
