Can you tell me where you found out it was extended to 6 year olds? The date of birth you have to enter only gives you 2006 as year of birth. My son is 5 now but was born in 2005 and I have not been able to get him one.
    Thanks in advance.

How do you prove that your child is the eligible age and registered in the minor hockey?

After you register your child with the OP link, you will be given an ID number to print out. Then you bring your ID number, child's birth certificate and your registration receipt from the hockey association that your child is with to the Chevrolet retailer near you and you will be given a Helmet Package which includes a gift card to be used at Sport Mart or Sport Chek to receive the helmet. Its a Bauer helmet that is specially labelled for this promo. My son loves his!

I just called the GM number listed on their website for this program and they said it's not open to those born in 2005. Where did you get this info from?

My nephew was born in 2005, my sister got him one because of that.. she is having his 6th bday party today so I can't reach her right now but I just left her a message to call me to see where she located the info to go pick it up.. I will post when I hear back from her.

Maybe call your GM dealership in the meantime as that is where you would go to pick up the voucher

FAQ for Registrants of the Chevrolet Canada Hockey Helmet Program

    • Who is eligible for this program?
This program is open to all 5 year old registered minor hockey players in Canada with a birth year of 2006.
    • Why is the program limited to 5 year olds?
Most players registering for organized hockey for the first time are 5 years of age. Chevrolet wants to ensure that these first time players have a Safe and Fun introduction to the sport of hockey.
    • My child is still too young to participate. Can I sign up to be reminded about the program for next year?
At this time we are only registering children born in 2006. Next year we will be providing helmets to children born in 2007. Please visit the website next summer.
    • My 6 year old child is in need of a new helmet, can we get him/her one?
If your child is registered for minor hockey and was born in 2006 then they are eligible! Unfortunately, if your child was not born in 2006, he/she is not eligible for the helmet program. You may be interested in attending a Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey Festival for children ages 5-8; more information can be found at www.safeandfunhockey.ca.
    • Is there a cost to participate in the program?
No, there is no cost associated with this program. However, your child must be registered in minor hockey in Canada.
    • What helmet do I receive as part of this program and will it fit my child?
Your child will receive a Chevrolet Bauer 2100 Helmet Combo Jr. The helmet is adjustable and will fit most children aged 5-8 years. Instructions are provided inside the box for adjustment procedures. As well, staff at the Forzani location where you will pick up the helmet can assist with helmet fitting.
    • How many helmets can I order? Am I limited to just one?
Each eligible child is entitled to receive (1) one helmet. To be eligible you must be born in 2006 and registered to play minor hockey in Canada.
    • What will I receive in my package from my dealership?
      • A Voucher to redeem for your helmet at your local Forzani store (Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Hockey Experts, Intersport or Sports Experts)
      • Information and Hockey related items from Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey
      • Information and Hockey related items from Hockey Canada
      • Information and Hockey related items from Forzani and Bauer
    • How do I know if my local Minor Hockey Association is a registered member of Hockey Canada?
Hockey Canada has thirteen branches across the nation. If your local minor hockey association is a member of one of these 13 branches, then you are a registered member of Hockey Canada. The 13 Hockey Canada Branches can be viewed by clicking here. Alternatively, you can contact your local minor hockey association to confirm.
    • My son is just learning to skate and is not registered for hockey yet. Can I still get him a hockey helmet?
Unfortunately no. A child is only eligible if they are registered with a minor hockey association and were born in 2006.
    • I am going to register my child for hockey but not just yet. Can I get them a helmet now in preparation?
Unfortunately no. You must fulfill all of the criteria of the Chevrolet Hockey Helmet Program to be eligible to receive the free Chevrolet Hockey Helmet.
    • I can't seem to find my receipt from the Hockey Association. What do I do?
Contact your local association and ask for some form of proof from them that states your child's name, the Hockey Association name and the year for which your child is registered. That will be sufficient proof.
    • I don't have my child's birth certificate. What do I do?
You can bring your child's passport or other official provincial/federal document that proves their date of birth.
    • I coach a whole team of 5 year olds in my community. Can I not just get helmets for all of them?
Unfortunately no. You can register your own child but each parent/guardian must register their own child to be eligible to receive a Chevrolet helmet.
    • I have signed up to receive my free helmet. Now what?
Thank you for registering! As soon as you register, you will receive an email with information that lays out the next steps. You will need to print the page, The Redemption Form, and bring it to the Chevrolet dealership listed, along with your child's birth certificate and proof of minor hockey registration.
    • What items do I have to bring with me to the dealership in order to receive my Chevrolet Safe & Fun kit/helmet?

You are required to bring all three items to validate your pick up.
      1. A hard copy of your confirmation e-mail, The Redemption Form, indicating the matching dealer pick up location.
      2. Your child's birth certificate/Passport or other provincial/federal documentation that states his/her age.
      3. Proof of registration with your local minor hockey association.
    • Why can't I just pick up my helmet directly from the dealership?
The most important part of this program is ensuring that the helmet fits properly. At Chevrolet, we are not the experts in helmet fitting. Having your child wear properly fitted equipment is the first step in protecting your child from injury. We think it's important that you visit your local Forzani retailer to get professional assistance to ensure a proper fit.
    • Why is Chevrolet doing this?
Chevrolet is every bit as passionate about hockey as you are. Chevrolet has also always been committed to deploying leading safety innovations, and that commitment now includes keeping young players safe while learning the sport of hockey. Hockey is Canada's game, and as a longstanding supporter, Chevrolet is encouraging young players to learn the importance of on-ice safety and sportsmanship, which will ensure they enjoy hockey for many years to come. By providing new and safe equipment, the Chevrolet Canada Hockey Helmet Program will help these young players learn that safe hockey is fun hockey.
    • I don't own a Chevrolet vehicle. Can I still get a helmet?
Yes, you may receive a Chevrolet Hockey Helmet even if you own a vehicle from another automotive manufacturer or don't own a vehicle at all, provided you have a child registered in hockey in Canada and they were born in 2006.
    • I live an hour away from my closest Chevrolet dealership. Can you not send me the helmet?
Unfortunately we cannot send Helmets without complete registration validation. Once you complete the registration you have until January 31st, 2012 to pick up your package at a Chevrolet dealership.
    • I have picked up the package from a Chevrolet dealership but can't get to a Forzani store. Can you not send me the helmet?
Unfortunately we cannot send Helmets without complete registration validation. Once you complete the registration you have until February 28th, 2012 to pick up your helmet at a Forzani store.
    • I have questions that are not answered in this FAQ. Who can I speak with?
Call 1800- GM Drive and speak to one of our Customer Care specialists. If they don't know the answer they will find someone who does.

Ok my sister got back to me.. this is what happened.. she signed Derrick up for Hockey and the coach sent her an email telling her that they had extended it to include 6 year olds because not enough 5 year olds signed up. They had lots left over.

When she went online to sign up there wasnt an option to do the 6 year old so she put him in as five. You have to take proof of age when you go and proof you have them signed up for this years hockey season. She just explained what happened when she went to the chev dealership. They gave her a voucher to go get Derrick sized and he got the free helmet.

I don't know if this was specfic to Brantford or not.. Just give the chev dealership a call and ask if they have extended it as well, or ask your son's coach if they know about it. My sister said 4 of the kids on the team have the same helmets.. they love em..

This is a great program, a friend of mine took advantage of it and got a free helmet for her boy starting hockey.

Myself, I'm SO glad that my DS is not interested in hockey. I kind of like the way he smiles with all his teeth! If I have anything to say about it, he's never gonna play that.
